"It probably started on that one day..."
"Some random, shitty day..."
One day, life can begin to change for the better. At least, that's the miracle you wish for, floating deep, and alone, in the cold stillness of the cosmos.
Making friends is hard.
Once the season changed, the floral scent of cherry blossoms was gone and the summer solstice came. It was the second summer you spent here, at U.A, home of the Heroes.
You were currently at your desk, awkwardly tugging hard on the zipper of your pink backpack - it was really jammed in there - making the fuzzy cherry charm you'd clipped on it spin against your arm.
I kind of want to change it.
Done with school (literally and mentally), you were putting away the homework packets you planned on getting done at summer camp while you went on autopilot, absentmindedly listening to the conversations of your classmates.
Or, forced to listen to anyways. You stopped counting how many times you weren't part of the bigger conversation after the third week of school and frankly, you were too insecure about it to start speaking up now.
"Hey, Sero, you caught up to Shingeki no Kyojin yet?"
"Not yet."
You pursed your lips, smoothing a corner that had crinkled inside your bag.
They watch it too...Of course they watch it, you idiot, it's one of the most popular animes!
"Can you catch up already? I swear, it's been out for weeks already. I need someone to talk to about it!"
But before you could dwell on it, Kaminari, Jirou, and Sero were already changing topics.
"We should get our supplies at the mall again."
Again?
That's right, they went last year, that's when Midoriya... you thought to yourself, recalling how you had showed up at the meeting place late and found no one there, being too embarrassed to text anyone to see where they were and ended up just leaving.
It was a good thing you did, but it still hurt when no one asked where you'd been after that whole thing went down. It was like that a lot last year - you missing out on important events and bonding moments. Whether it was lucky or unlucky, you still weren't sure about it yet.
Last year, when you got into UA, and Class A at that, you had laid awake making up scenarios about the Hero school experience, daydreaming of having the cutest friend group who you could have late night study sessions with over Facetime, or who you'd go after school with to the family diner down the street or the cute little local café and gossip about news.
But on the first day of school, when that wide-eyed, peppy self you created out of first day optimism located her assigned seat, you knew the person sitting with his feet up on the desk behind you wasn't the person you'd been wishing for.
And your smart plan to befriend whoever sat around you was extinguished with a bucket of cold water when you timidly looked at who else surrounded you, cornered at the front of the last row.
You rarely talked to boys, and now you were supposed to sit in front of the most intimidating out of all of them? And the silent, almost as intimidating Shouji sat next to you. And Jirou - the most intimidating of the girls in your opinion - sat in the final, diagonal seat.
It was like the universe was personally after you, and all your fairy tale scenarios were crushed.
It was basically cemented when Present Mic made the class have ice breakers on the first day before assigning partner work, making you turn around in your seat and introduce yourself to your... partner.
