fortune
n. the success or failure of a person or group over a period of time or in the course of a particular event
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------"We all know that Ganondorf's army is made up of a variety of beasts. As is ours. It would be in our best interest to match up accordingly. That means Rito in the skies, seasoned warriors against stronger beasts, and of course,"—all eyes cascaded upon Link—"the fated hero against the Demon King."
The hero rolled his shoulders, redistributing the weight of the Master Sword on his back.
Zelda was surprised by the strange twinge of indignation she felt. Yes, slaying Evil Incarnate was ordained his role by Hylia's prophecy, but with their elite squad going into the castle, surely that didn't mean leave Link to fight Ganondorf alone—
I'm terrified, Zelda.
"And after the fighting's done, we rush Princess Zelda in to use the sealing power to end it once and for all."
"I can fight, too," she heard herself say before she could stop herself.
She didn't really want that, did she? The thought of going back into that castle—especially now—made her heart beat so fast she thought it might explode. But the thought of sending Link in alone, with no way of knowing how he was faring— It threatened to stop her heart completely.
Kaneli disagreed so vehemently, his head twisted with an owl's absurd range as he shook his head no. "Absolutely not. We can't risk—"
"Hyrule Castle's my home," she insisted for some reason. "I know its layout better than anyone here. You want to know the most direct path to the fourth-story spires? Or the hidden corridors for escaping? How about the blind spots from the parapets? We don't have the luxury of studying the castle layout till you all have it memorized, so if you want that information at the drop of a hat, you're going to need me. Furthermore, if Ganondorf is truly awaiting us in that throne room..." She eyed her beau. "Then I think I have an idea to gain the upper hand against the Demon King."
Their expressions were hard to read, likely because they themselves were still on the fence. She made a good point, but that didn't make it any less of a risk. Wasn't her presence more of a liability than an asset?
"What say you, hero?" Urbosa finally deferred.
Link's expression was official and confident like her father's when he was giving orders. "If Zelda wants to fight, let her fight. She's great with a bow."
He passed the floor back to her with his eyes, but she had no more words at the ready.
"I still don't like it..." Kaneli maintained.
"Me neither," Purah agreed. Zelda shot her a betrayed look and the Sheikah opened her palms. "Sorry, Zellie. I just don't think it's a good idea to throw you into the heart of everything until we need your power. Have you even mastered control of it yet?"
The princess balled her hands into fists beneath the table. "No."
A mix of shock and fright struck everyone's faces. Hidden by the table, Link's hand came over and silently enveloped hers.
"But, you can summon it at will, isn't that right?" Sidon encouraged.
A squeeze. A slow breath. Emerald forthright. "...Not extemporaneously, no."
The fear broke past their sealed lips, and suddenly the small room filled with worries ricocheting off the wood.
"But that doesn't mean it won't come when we need it," Midna projected over the dull uproar. "I know I'm only here to translate— so forgive me for speaking out of line, but Hylia picked the two of them for a reason. You all have to put more faith in that."
