"Yes Cai?", I yawned into the phone, stretched out and caused Dre to move a little bit.
I play with his curls, listening to his light breathing.
"Mommy, where are you?", Cai asks softly.
"I'm at your house", my pikney life affi nice.
All he said was that the house was his and his father said okay, had all the necessary papers signed and now he's got somewhere to run off to when he's older.
Can't say anything because I would have given it to him myself.
"Oh, you and Daddy wanted private time?".
"Yes baby, how are you up so early, you don't have school".
"Uncle Chinna took me with him to buy breakfast for everyone".
"Okay, are you okay?".
"Yes, are you okay?".
"I'm good, why don't you save some of that breakfast for me?".
"What do you want?".
"What do you think I want?".
He's silent, "I'll surprise you".
"You sure you can handle that big responsibility?".
"I can".
I hear Chinna asking him what he wanted.
"Mommy, I'll call you later".
"Okay baby, I love you".
"I love you too, tell Daddy good morning for me please".
"I will, bye bye".
"Bye bye".
I wait until he hung up to breathe a happy sigh. I love that kid.
I wonder if Dre was that sweet growing up.
I bet he was to his grandmother.
I managed to move Dre's arm in order for me to get off the bed. I went into the bathroom and brushed my teeth, washed my face then looked at myself.
I lifted the shirt to look at my belly. I noticed a bruise like mark on my left side, prompting me to look down at it.
What the hell is this?.
It looked like a birthmark the way it was shaped, it was light in color due to my dark skin tone.
Wasn't too big, however, it was visible.
I'll show it to Dre when he's up. I took a picture of it for Morrison, I sent it to him.
If I waited a day later to send it he's going to nag me like he always did.
He's like the grumpy grandfather version of Ruel and Daddy.
After going back into the room, I sat on the bed thinking about how hungry I was now.
Dre's thumb caressed my thigh, bringing my eyes to him.
He inhales deeply, "why were you on the phone with a white man telling him to surprise you?".
My God man.
I laugh shoving his arm, "he treats me better than you do".
"Obviously, cause if him a call yuh after six a morning".
"He said to tell you good morning".
"Weh him a do up so early?".
"Chinna bring him go buy breakfast for the family", I lift my shirt to show him the mark, "and I have this now".
