Cai's crying alarmed me. I sat up disoriented from my sleep, I held my head in my hand with a groan.
"I'm sorry Cai, it was an accident", Papi cries as their feet came running down the hallway.
Wahm to dem now?.
The door swings open and they both ran in.
"Uncle Dre I'm sorry, I didn't mean to", Papillion cries at the same rate Cai was going.
My head pounds hearing their cries.
"Come", I motion for them to get on the bed, "stop crying, take deep breaths".
".....what happened?".
"I stepped on his finger while we were playing with our toys", Papi inhales deeply, still trying to calm down, "I-...I didn't mean to, I'm sorry".
"Hey, it's okay, no need to cry", I wiped both their tears.
I took Cai's red hand into mine, I made sure no bones were broken or dislocated.
"Papi, who's in the kitchen?".
"Aunty Mona, she's making us cupcakes".
"Okay, tell Aunty Mona to give you the ice pack in the freezer, please".
He ran out to do as I asked.
"It's okay papa, I'll make it better", I still held Cai's hand in mine.
He's shaking from crying so much.
Dem always a injure each other when dem a play.
"Thanks", I take the ice pack and put it in Cai's hand.
He flinched at the sudden cold, leaning into my chest.
Papi climbed onto the bed to pat Cai's head, "I'm sorry Bubba".
"I forgive you".
"....Daddy, can I go play again?".
"Yeah, be careful alright".
"We will".
Just like dat dem a giggle go out the door.
I sighed loudly, now that I'm up I might as well go outside to get some fresh air.
Jhené had an appointment with Morrison today, Tanoi and Abby went with her to the clinic.
My body felt sore from not getting enough sleep last night, no one got any sleep.
I'm attacked by Emmy the second I'm in the kitchen. She jumped up and down with her hands up in the air for me to pick her up.
"Hello princess", I kiss her cheek before she laid her head on my shoulder.
I take her outside with me, passing by her father on the veranda with his friends.
Most of the people who were here went home, they said they'd come back to visit, now it's just the family.
"Where the two a unu a straighten up go?", my grandmother's voice caused me to me stop in my tracks.
"Just getting some fresh air", I answer looking at her.
She's on Uncle Dan's veranda with Cardo, I don't want to know what they're talking about this time.
"Alright, doh wander off too far".
"I won't".
I kept walking down the street with Emmy, her light breathing made me realize that she had fallen asleep. This girl really used me to fall asleep.
