Vali's POV
Aerodactyl gracefully soared through the air, with me on her back, flying above the lush ocean below. Its green waves and frothing surface rippled erratically as the winds stirred. It coruscated under the sun's radiance, sparkling incessantly.
Besides us, on the left, was blue, bat-like Pokemon with a round body framed by a shaggy mane of white fur. On its back, since it was big enough, was Trinity, her red hair like fire under the sun's touch.
Trinity caught the Swoobat alongside another Pokemon while I was out in the forest with Chloe and Regina. Speaking of them, they were still back on the lab, doing Arceus knows what.
And on the right of me was a bird that looked like it was made of metal, its wings sharp and metallic. Gabriel was riding on its back, his hair gaining the same luster as his sister from the sun above.
"So tell me why you decided to come with us?" I asked him, bored.
"I wanted to see what you both do," Gabriel replied. "This is your job, right? Do you always get sent on dangerous tasks?"
Professor Cerise briefed Trinity and I last night about our newest task, the details of which he was made aware of while I was in the forest.
Recently, there have been reported sightings of a bizarre, massive Pokemon swimming near Dragonite Island, an island that is only habited by the Dratini line. Apparently, Professor Cerise has already sent his previous research assistants, Ash and Goh, to the island. But he chose to keep the location secret, since it could potentially endanger a community of the Dratini line. They were rare already, so this island was their sanctuary—revealing that haven would only cause problems in the long run.
Professor Cerise only told trusted researchers about the island so that it could have at least a modicum of protection. Those sources were what informed Cerise about the possible threats, which was why we were here.
Gabriel asked if he could come, and Cerise allowed him to, even going so far as offering to pay him.
At Gabriel's question, I smiled wryly. "You have no idea."
