Step 3: Don't. Ever. Compliment!

I knew gam gam wasn't heartless, she was just a diamond in the rough. Yesterday, even after acting nonchalant, she came to literally knock me to sleep and even this morning, she told me to pack dog poop from the garden. Such a beautiful soul indeed.

I groaned as I was trying to pack up the humongous dump while I was half asleep. I begged gam gam not to send me out here in the morning to pack dog poop because I knew O'brian would be passing anytime soon and he must make a jest of me.

But did she listen, hell no! No one cared about my fragile reputation anymore.

Falling on sand yesterday wasn't enough for the world plus him taking a picture of me afterwards was like adding some spice on my already tarnishing reputation. As I tried scooping up the poop quickly, I heard whistling and the sound of a bicycle moving up the road. My attention moved to the sound, far aware of who was coming.

"Good morning Kendall," O'brian said with his signature evil grin. I acted like I didn't hear him, humming to myself as I tried to make picking up poop cute. "You look cute as a gardener." Immediately, my neck twisted so fast that I'm sure I broke a bone.

"Did you just compliment me?" Oh no way. I've read too much books and as I am the almost-queen of delulu land, and I knew complimenting a girl was always the first stage of falling in love. Ew, I rebuke it. O'brian should never, at all cost compliment me.

He simply shrugged, not affected by his words. I dropped the rake I was using and strode towards him, my index finger straight and pointy. "Don't. Compliment. Ever." I warned with sharp eyes. This was my first time seeing O'brian actually get  frightened and he nodded.

"What's with the attitude?"

"If you compliment me, the next stage would be giving me love eyes and then you would fall in love." The both of us cringed, yelling ew and gross, trying not to barf.

"I assure you, that wouldn't happen. You're most likely to fall for me." I scoffed, rolling my eyes.

"I'm sorry, I'm not into short boys," I said, emphasizing on the boys. How I found out that he was younger than me was through Gam gam. I asked her about him after the iconic first impression he gave by throwing paper on my face. She told me that he was entering the 12th grade while I would be entering college.

"That's harsh and don't worry, I'm still growing."

"How old are you? 17? That's the age most guys stop growing O'brian. Don't give yourself hope."

"Um first off, I'm not short, you're tall and there isn't a big height gap between us. And two, some guys still grow even when they become 18," he explained.

"17, 18, what's the difference?" O'brian frowned, clearly pissed off by this conversation. "You know, this is payback for yesterday." With that, he smiled, clearly remembering the events of yesterday.

"You looked cute with black tears and sand sparkles."

"I said no compliments!"

"Is that a rule?" He challenged.

"Yes and you know my reasons." O'brian shook his head.

"Sean doesn't conform to rules cutie pie." Anger surged through me and I moved to grab his hair but he sped off. For payback, I ran towards my rake, picked it up and flung the content in it at him. As it landed on his back, it slid down, and as he turned around and smelled it, he fumed up in anger.

"You're dead Kendall." He jumped down from his bike, and ran towards me. He was so fast that I was taken aback. Still, I tried to outrun him, dashing into the garden. O'brian was at my tail, not showing any signs of giving up. "You made me smell like shit now."

"You usually smell like shit!" I laughed. He groaned, increasing his pace towards me. "Oh Brian, give up. Take this as a punishment for taking a picture of me." He didn't respond, still trying to catch me. I ran through the sunflower patch, hoping it would be harder for Sean to catch me but instead of making it hard for him to catch me, I made it hard for me to see him.

Everywhere turned eerily silent, only the chirps of the birds sounded. With the now oddly quiet atmosphere I tried to not to make much sound. From the side, I saw a lurking figure and as I turned, O'brian stood there, smirking evilly.

"I got you now, Kendall!" He yelled as he launched at me. A shriek escaped my mouth and we both fell to the ground. Surprisingly, my fall wasn't hard, but soon I realized Sean was the one to fall to the ground while I just laid in an awkward position on his body.

"Wow, you make the best cushion," I said, tapping his face to provoke him.

"Get off me Kendall!" I didn't budge, feeling comfortable on his body. He moved, trying to push me off.

"Calm down horsie." But he didn't. He stood to his feet, making me to slide off and land on my butt. His expression didn't look happy or pleased at me instead he looked angry, sad and exhausted.

"Good job Kendall," he only said as he walked away. What did that mean? Weren't we just having fun? I stared at his retreating figure in confusion. This guy was another breed of human, one second he's joking, the other, he's dead pan serious.

"Hmm, someone must be on their period."
