Peter POV:

I know Aspen is right but I don't want to let her go. I have never met anybody that makes me feel like she does. She actually says she trust me even after I told her some of the bad things I have done. I didn't tell her everything but I will one day.

When we step out of the stables I am speechless. I could tell Aspen was pretty but I couldn't see her fully until we step outside. She is truly breathtaking. She has the most gorgeous red hair and soulful blue eyes. And even under the amity clothes you could tell she has a great body. But it's those eyes that get me. She is looking at me like I am the only person in the whole world.

"Thank you again for bringing back the horse." she tells me with the most amazing smile I have ever seen. Her whole face and eyes light up when she smiles.

"Its no problem. Getting to spend time with you was thanks enough." I tell her feeling like I got the better end of this deal.

I need to go back to the fence before I get in trouble but I seem to be trapped in her eyes. The last thing I want to do is leave this moment.

"I really need to go before my family starts to worry about me." she tells me and then she blows me away by holding on to my arm and kissing my cheek. "Thank you again."

"I hope to see you in dauntless." I can't quit smiling.

As she walks away I watch how graceful she moves. I have never seen anyone walk with some grace and dignity. She looks like she is floating.

Is there anything this girl isn't perfect at? I have to laugh at myself for being so stupid. How can someone be perfect at walking? Well if anybody can it's Aspen.

Her name is even perfect.

I am so lost in the feeling of her lips on my cheek I don't hear Johana the leader of amity walk up behind.

"Good morning Peter. Did you have to save another horse during the storm?" she ask me.

"Yes ma'am. But could you please not tell anyone I don't want anyone to get in trouble for letting it loose?"

"Its our secret. I told you there is good in your heart Peter. Now are you going to tell me why you are smiling so big this morning?" she ask me.

"Fresh starts and new beginnings." is all I tell her.

"I am happy for you Peter. You deserve peace and happiness." She says smiling at me. "Would care to join us for breakfast? Its the least we can do for you saving our horse."

"Thank you Johanna but I must get back to the fence. I don't want to get into trouble." I would really love to stay for breakfast because Amity has some really good food better then the junk we have to make for ourselves on the fence.

"Please Peter? Its the least we can do for your help." she tells me looking genuinely like she wants me to stay.

"How can I say no to you?" I tell her.

In the two years I have a been a guard I have interacted with her on numerous occasion. Whenever she needs a guard to put down a wild animal or help getting the horses back she always ask for me. I don't think its because of me but because the other guards don't show her and the Amity the same respect I do. I promised myself after all the bad I did in initiation that I would change and showing respect has been one of the harder things I have changed.

I follow Joanna into the dining hall hoping to see Aspen eating with her faction. Once Joanna and I have made our plates are sitting down I am rewarded with seeing Aspen walk in with younger girl and three boys who appear to be her age. I can't help but stare at her. And then I notice how the boys keep staring at her too and they are too handsy for my taste. I can feel bile rising in the back of my throat as I try to fight my jealousy.

"She is beautiful isn't she?" Joanna ask me.

"Oh I hadn't noticed." I tell her trying to fight down my blush.

"The thing that makes her so beautiful is she doesn't even realize it. And she has such a sweet innocent soul. Those three boys have been following her around for years trying to get her attention but she thinks of them only as friends because she doesn't think she is pretty enough for a boy to like her that way. She is amazing life force." you could hear the admiration in her voice.

I don't know what to say in response because I can see what she says is very true. I can hear her laughter all the way on the other side of the dining hall and it is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard.

I can't help but feel a tightness in my chest as I watch the three boys sitting with her watching everything she is doing and talking and joking with her. One of the boys wraps his arm around her shoulders and she lays her head over onto his chest. You can see how huge his smile is from all the way over here. I really really watch to go punch the smile off his face. I have to remind myself she isn't mine and I am not violent anymore unless I absolutely have to be.

I can only watch and observe as she interacts with her friends. She smiles so easy and her laughter is contagious. It is obvious from watching her that she has no idea what kind of effect she has on people especially the males.

I can't take anymore when I see two older males show up to sit with her and her friends.

"Joanna, I really need to go now but thank you for an amazing breakfast." I tell her trying to fake a smile.

"Go with peace and love Peter."

As I walk back to the fence I can't keep my mind off of Aspen. She has taken over my brain and I really don't mind.

I wonder if she will choose Dauntless? Could I have a chance with her if she choose Dauntless? Of course I wouldn't. I know for a fact the guys of Dauntless are better looking then the guys in Amity. They are going to eat her up for the simple she is beautiful and she is innocent. I am going to have to win her over before people tell her more about me too.

I guess I can worry about all that if or when she chooses dauntless.

"Why you smiling Hayes?" Ian one of the guards ask me when I get back to the fence.

"Because the sun is shining and the birds are chirping." I tell him smiling bigger.

"Did you eat Amity bread?" he ask me.

"Nope." is all I tell him as I go inside to check my messages.

The first message I read is from Eric approving me to be moved from guarding the fence to patrolling the factionless area. He goes on to say I have proved myself in my two years of guarding the fence. I can't help but smile when I realize I will have a normal life again. I will be back at the compound everyday at the end of the work day instead of being stuck out here for three weeks at a time. But smile starts to fade as I see that I will be moved out tomorrow. I was really hoping to get another chance of seeing Aspen but I can't turn down this offer because I may never get it again. I really hope she picks Dauntless so I can see her again.
