P.S. Pick up top is what type of PJs she would wear
Brad POV:
The whole family is sat on the couch watching a comedy. This is one of my favourite things that we do together. True family.
Rosie is still upset about being forced to go to the Daddy-Daughter dance at school but I'm sure that we will have a good time. I just need to truly bond with her and then she will stop being so mean to me.... Skateboarding. I used to skateboard so maybe I need to try harder at bonding over that.
The phone starts ringing and before I could get up and get it, Rosie grabs it.
"Hello?" She asks into the phone. Then, completely out of nowhere, the word I was not expecting to hear this evening is said. "Dad?!"
Rosie POV:
We're all watching some stupid movie that Brad chose. I'm still annoyed at basically being dragged to this Daddy Daughter dance coming up. Mum is probably gonna tell Brad about what happened last time which means Brad is gonna try and be all sappy and comforting in the morning. I'm gonna need a sick bowl whilst I eat.
The phone starts ringing and I quickly grab it and answer it.
"Hello?" I question whoever is on the other side.
"RJ? Is that you baby?" The person says. Holy shit. Only one person ever calls me RJ.
"Dad?" I laugh in disbelief. It's been forever since he's called. I can't tell if I'm happy or angry or something at him calling. "Where are you?" I ask. He travels all around the world doing......mostly dangerous stuff. Probably why we never know where he is.
"I'm in Cameroon right now." He says as what sounds suspiciously like gunfire starts in the background.
"Wait, are you being shot at?" I ask, slightly concerned.
"Daddy! Daddy! I want to talk to Daddy!" Megan begs, running up and trying to snatch the phone out my hand.
"Calm down weirdo." I say, passing her the phone.
"Hi Daddy.. Good." Megan carries on talking to Dad while I go grab a drink from the kitchen. Talking to Dad shocked the hell outta me. I mean, Dad hasn't called in months and normally it's at awkward times so we can't talk long. I hope he comes to visit cause it would be nice to see him again. It would also be really funny for him and Brad to meet.
I walk back into the room to Dylan and Meghan jumping up and down.
"Daddy's coming! Yay!" They both shout. My heart drops but also fills with excitement which is a very strange feeling. I wanna see my Dad more than anything but I'm also smart enough to know he is probably gonna leave again. Mom and I share a look before Brad's voice (which is the most annoying sound but that is a conversation for another day) breaks us out of our stare.
"Oh yeah. I guess I could pick you up. It's Whitaker. W-H-I-T-A-K-E-R. No. I'm not comfortable giving you my social security number over the phone. Uh, okay, yeah, my credit score is 752. I'm very proud of that. I'm sorry? What sort of fighting styles am I proficient in? I don't know if I've ever been asked that before." Brad says uncomfortably. This seems to do something to Mum cause she starts doing hand signals and mouthing stuff to him. Huh, I guess she really doesn't want Dad to come. "Hello, Dusty, hello, hello? Hmm...I lost him." Brad finished, putting the phone down.
"Dad's really coming isn't he?" I ask, trying not to sound like I didn't want him here. I do I just don't want history to repeat itself.
"Yeah honey. Your dad is gonna be here tomorrow," Brad says. Holy shit. It's actually happening.
"Ok. Bedtime. All of you." Mum says, starting to guide my brother and sister upstairs.
I follow them and start to get ready for bed. Once my PJ's are on and my hair and teeth are brushed, I climb into bed and just stare up at the ceiling, my mind racing with thoughts about tomorrow. I'm broken out of my thoughts by my door opening slightly.
"Hey Honey. Are you ok?" Mum asks, walking in and sitting on my bed.
"Yeah. It's just gonna be weird." I say honestly. I mean, it is. To have Dad come back is weird on its own but Brad being here is just gonna make it worse. Mum nods with a tight lipped smile on her face before putting her hand on my knee.
"It'll be ok. I promise. I know Dad messed it up last time but people grow and I think this time he will really try this time." She says. Eh. I guess she has a small point. However, I can tell she's kinda faking the positivity. I nod my head and she leaves me with a gentle pat on my leg.
I guess since Dad reached out first, it's a good sign. Hopefully he will be here to stay and actually be a father for once.
Dad will be a dad now.....right?
