School is over and Meghan, Dylan and Mum and I are just hanging out outside. I'm trying to teach them some Skateboard tricks whilst Mum watches but it's not going so well. We haven't been out for very long before the car pulls up, meaning Dad and Brad are home.

"Daddy!" Megan and Dylan run over with Mum and I following behind.

"Hey! Oh, perfect timing. Listen to this." Dad says pointing at the radio. His voice comes out the radio singing the tagline of the crappy radio station Brad works for.

"Is that you?" I ask shocked.

"Yeah!" Dad said excited.

"That's you? Why is that him?" Mum asks Brad shocked.

"I took him to work, and 15 minutes later he's the new voice of The Panda." Brad says annoyed as he gets out.

"Hey, you believe that? I record one take at 9:30 this morning, it's already run 11 times. Do I really get 182 bucks every time they play that?" Dad asks, getting out the car as well and we all start walking towards the house.

"Yes. Every time, yes." Brad answers him in the same tone. Why is he so pissed that Dad did something that could in some way benefit him? Fool.

"Ooh! Money." Megan says with a big grin on her face.

"You see why I love America even more than most people do?" Dad says to us before glancing at the street.

I speed ahead of everyone to the kitchen to get a drink. I guess since dad has good money coming in, he may get a place here. It would be cool to have a place to get a way when Megan and Dylan are being too loud or when Brad's cringeyness is getting too much to deal with.

Just as I grab the fridge door, I hear dad shouting.

"Kids! Get in here!" He yells.

"Hang on!" I yell back as I open the fridge.

"Now please RJ!" He yells again. God. I just wanted some diet pepsi. Is that too much to ask? I slowly walk to the front door where our little meeting seems to be being held.

"Guys, what would we call Brad if he treated someone differently just because of the colour of their skin?" Dad asks us. I was gone for like a minute. What happened?

"Brad's being racism?" Megan and Dylan both ask.

"No, no. Brad's racist. He's being racist." I tell them. "Which, is shocking cause I was literally gone for one second."

"Is Brad a Klan person?" Meg asks.

Mum and Brad both say "No" at the same time as I say "Yes" which earns me a look so scolding I'm surprised I'm not on fire.

"So I'm a racist if I don't fire someone?" Brad asks sounding genuinely confused.

"Well, yeah, you are." Dad tells him.

"Yeah, you are." Meg and I tell him together. Brad gives a defeated sigh before walking upstairs to fire the builder.

It's the next day and dad has done the single greatest thing ever! He basically turned the entire yard into a huge party/hang out spot.

He finished the tree house with a zipline which is really cool in itself but then he built a massive halfpipe! It is my favourite thing ever! My friends and I have not gotten off it. Dad is actually the best!

I'm standing at the top chatting to my friends when I see Dad and Brad walk into the yard.

"Hey baby! I said you and your friends gotta get helmets on the half-pipe." Dad yelled up.

"It's fine dad! I'm a pro at this shit." I yell back making him laugh. Just to show him, I go down the half-pipe and right back up to the top. Dad cheers whilst Brad stands there looking slightly horrified.

Mum comes into the back yard and instantly has a murderous look on her face. She marches over to where Brad and Dad are talking about something. I bet she's saying something like 'why are all these kids in my backyard having a good time?'. What a party pooper.

Oh well, guess I better make the most out of this ramp before she takes it down with her bare hands. I prep my board before going down the ramp. However, I failed to do the one thing a skateboarder should always do; I forgot to check it was clear.

As I'm going down, stupid Brad walks right across it. We both realise before it's too late that we are gonna crash right into each other. My reflexes kick in and I jump off the board to avoid crashing into him (even if he would have given me a softer landing, I don't want to touch him).

My board still slides into him and he falls on his ass at the same time I land on my side. What was that cracking sound?

I start laughing at Brad as everyone rushes over to us.

"Ah. Brad. You dumbass." I laugh as I put both my hands on the floor to push myself up. As soon as I try to push off, a searing pain spreads from my right hand up my arm, nearly making me fall. The only reason I didn't fall on my butt again was because Brad caught me.

"Are you ok honey?" Mum asks as she reaches us.

"Yeah I think–" I cut myself off as I realise Brad is still touching me. "Brad get off me." I tell/warn him. He immediately takes his hands off me as Dad sends him a glare that would scare a bull.

"Is it your hand?" He asks, taking a surprisingly gentle hold of it.

"It's fine. I think I just landed weird." My attempt at convincing my parents it isn't as bad as it actually is doesn't work as they both send me the parent look. You know the one; they know you're lying and are trying to mind control you into telling the truth. It works. "Ok yeah it hurts a little. Maybe a little more."

"Mummy, why is Rosie's thumb turning purple?" Megan asks innocently.

"Why is her hand getting bigger?" Dylan asks in the same innocent but slightly worried voice. I know neither meant to scare me but I have to admit, them asking these questions have made me feel very alarmed!

"How bad is it?" I ask Dad. I wanna look to see if it's true but at the same time I don't want to cause I don't want to see in case it makes it hurt worse or is just so gnarly to look at that I just find the nearest sharpest thing I cut it off so I don't have to see it ever again! I'm not panicking you are!

"No. No, it's fine. Wiggle your fingers for me baby." He asks. I do it and I see his face relax a little but not enough for my liking. Uh oh.

"Rosie. I am so, so sorry. I should have checked you weren't coming down." Brad says nervously but sounding genuine. That doesn't help at this exact moment but I'm sure I'll appreciate it later.

"Yeah you should have." Dad nearly yells at him.

"Hey. It was not his fault." Mum says with her arms now wrapped around my shoulders.

"Oh yeah cause I totally wanted a mangled hand." I say with a slightly raised voice. It's really starting to hurt now!

"It was an accident. That's all." She says. "Now, let's get your hand checked out honey." She says. Mum helps me support my hand as we head to the car. Glancing back, I see Dad giving Brad even more death glares as he follows us.

Well, this is gonna make this whole visit so much more awkward.
