January 1998 - Hogwarts

Death eaters and dementors were around every corner at Hogwarts. Gloominess was part of the culture. The Carrows had teaching methods that were barbaric. All the Gryffindors hated me, and I'm sure the word of my dark mark would spread like wildfire if it hadn't already. But I was content. I was in love.

"So you got it settled then?" Jane asked me as we unpacked in my room.

"Was it obvious?"

"He wasn't able to keep his hands off you from the moment you got on the train. I think it was a little obvious."

"Whoops."

"Oh, I told Blaise about our plan to get our pictures done, " she laughed.

"What did he think?"

"He said he thinks it's a great idea," she said. "I told him he has to pay for the trip too."

"Oh?" I asked. "And what did he say?"

"He agreed, of course," Jane said.

"Jane," I said. "Say that again."

"I told him he had to pay for our trip to Paris and he agreed."

"He didn't even protest a little?"

"Of course not," Jane said. "He wouldn't dare."

"Jane," I said, putting my things down and focusing on the conversation. "Do you realize that Blaise has never said no to you?" Jane's face went blank.

"What?"

"He has never contradicted you," I said. Still, a blank face from Jane.

"What?"

"Jane, come on," I said. "There's no way you haven't noticed."

"What?"

"Stop saying that," I said. "Have you really not noticed?"

"What?"

"Oh my god, I can't do this. Jane, he has never said no to you."

"That's not true," Jane said, flustered.

"Ok then. Name a time when he has said no to you."

"I can't just think of one on the spot," she said.

"Because it's never happened."

"How about you name a time when he hasn't said no to me but probably wanted to."

"Oh I've got plenty," I said. "Fourth year. You told him to tell me how pretty I looked at the Yule Ball. And he just did it."

"Because you didn't have a date to tell you," Jane argued. "He was just being nice. That's not abnormal."

"Yes it is," I argued. "Do you think Draco would have done that to you if the roles were reversed?"

"No," Jane said. "But that's not the point."

"How about at the start of fifth year when you told Blaise to take my things on the train while I stayed behind to wait for Harry? He just did it."

"He was being nice," Jane said.

"No. If he was being nice, he would have offered to do it himself. You told him to do it and he just did it. And he didn't want to join Quidditch until I told you to make him. The moment you said he had to play quidditch, he didn't argue about it anymore."

"Oh my god," Jane said. "He really hasn't said no to me. Like...ever."

"See?"

"But that's ok, right?" she asked. "I mean it's better than fighting all the time."
