John set the shield down. As he went to turn to Sam, a spear pierced the wall in front of him. "Release him to us now." Ayo ordered.
"Hi." John greeted. "John Walker, Captain America. Let's, uh, put down the pointy sticks and we can talk this through, huh?"
"Hey, John, take it easy." Sam warned. "You might wanna fight Bucky before you tangle with the Dora Milaje."
"The Dora Milaje don't have jurisdiction here, so..."
"The Dora Milaje have jurisdiction wherever the Dora Milaje find themselves to be."
"Okay." John replied. "Look, I think we got off on the wrong foot." He placed a hand on Ayo's shoulder, making her hit him with the spear. John was kicked back into the wall. He grabbed the shield when he landed on the floor. Riss took another sip as she watched Lemar and John get their asses handed to them.
"We should do something." Sam told them.
"Looking strong, John." Bucky called.
"Bucky..." Sam warned. Bucky sighed, interfering. He pulled the spear away from John.
"Ayo." He started. She pulled him closer. "Ayo, let's talk about this."
"Riss." Sam tried.
"I'll pass." Riss replied.
"Carissa."
"Jesus, fine." She set the glass down. Riss grabbed at a spear as it came toward her face, shoving it away. She dodged the hits she could, but like the rest, she wasn't completely successful. Walker was stuck to the table behind him, Lemar had been thrown onto the couch.
Riss turned as she heard a thud behind her, seeing Bucky's arm on the floor. Ayo walked into the bathroom, but it was empty. Walker was released from the table. "He's gone. Leave it."
He got the shield back. Bucky picked the arm up. "Did you know they could do that?" Sam asked.
"No." Bucky answered as he swung it around.
Sam glared at Walker as he passed by. Riss and Bucky were behind him as they looked into the bathroom. "I can't believe he pulled an El Chapo." Sam said.
"I can." Bucky and Riss replied.
Riss sighed, picking at her fingernails. "What's on your mind, Riss?" Bucky took her hand.
"I'm weirdly worried about Walker. Zemo, too." She answered.Bucky tilted his head, furrowing his eyebrows. "I know, I know. I hate them, too, but maybe they're not so bad."
"Do you remember the last time Zemo was around?" Bucky asked.
"Do you remember when you threw me through a wall?" She asked.
Bucky sighed. "I apologized for that."
"And I forgave you. And looked past it and look at where we are now." She replied.
"Oh, I see. You just have a thing for Zemo." He said.
"Jesus, Bucky, no. I just see the same thing in him that I saw in you when I agreed to help you. And I think Walker is going off the deep end. He's starting to feel helpless and he's now the center of attention. Those can be a dangerous combination."
Bucky tucked her hair behind her ear. "You're a lot like your dad."
"I've been told." She replied.
"Guys, we gotta go." Sam called. The trio walked down the street as Sam's phone started to ring. "She said what? I know. Right. Hold on, hold on. I know. Listen, pack an overnight bag and take the boys."
"What happened?" Bucky asked.
"Oh, God." Riss sighed. "She's getting so much worse."
"Karli called Sarah. She threatened my nephews." Sam answered. He went back to the call. "Okay. Go somewhere safe. Only pay cash. All right? Let me know when you get there. I know. Look, I love you. I'll never let anything happen to you and the boys. You know that. Okay. Bye." He hung up the phone. "Karli wants to meet. She left a contact number." His phone beeped. "She said come alone."
"We're coming with you." Bucky said.
The three made it to the meetup location. "Karli!" Karli showed herself, the three of them going up the stairs. "You called my sister? That's how we're gonna play this?"
"Sam, I would never hurt her. I wanted to understand you better." Karli answered. "I see you, um, didn't come alone." She pointed to Bucky and Riss.
"You have to end this now." Sam said.
"I don't wanna hurt you." Karli replied. "You're just a tool in the regimes I'm looking to destroy. You're not hiding behind a shield. If I were to kill you, it'd be meaningless." Sam turned to the couple. "I was gonna ask you to join me. Or do the world a favor and let me go."
Sam turned to Riss and Bucky again. "It's Walker." Bucky jumped down first, but Karli jumped with him. She hit him into the wall. Riss and Sam followed them. Riss kicked Karli back into the wall as Bucky stood. "I'll send you the location. Go!"
Riss and Bucky followed the order. They jumped off the balcony, running down the street. Riss followed Bucky into the building and up the stairs. They were stopped by one of the Flag Smashers jumping up with them. Bucky got pinned, Riss turning to kick the guy down the stairs. "Come on." She pulled at his hand.
"Hold on." He jumped back down the stairs, kicking the guy through the brick wall. "Stay there."
"Buck, let's go." She tried again. "EDITH, find Sam." They entered the room together, Bucky catching a knife that was coming at her face. "Good catch."
"You owe me." He replied.
"Will that ever die?" She asked. Bucky got one of the Super Soldiers down on the ground at the same time Carissa handled hers.
Another one was coming for Sam, but Bucky intervened. "Now you both owe me." He said as the Super Soldier hit the ground.
One of the Soldiers got his arms around Walker. Karli took the opening, running at him with a knife. Riss went for her, but Lemar got there first. They both stood, Karli punching Lemar into the pillar behind him. They all turned to look at her. Riss got to Lemar first, slipping the goggles on.
"EDITH, check vitals." John crouched beside her.
"Hey. Hey." He tried. "Lemar. Lemar."
"John, I'm so sorry." Riss said. John let Lemar go. Karli took off, Bucky and Sam right behind her. Riss watched as John threw himself out the nearest window.
"Riss, let's go!" Sam called. Riss stood, following after the boys.
The three of them were the last to the scene. Riss covered her mouth, seeing the blood dripping from the shield.
Carissa couldn't believe what was in front of her. John stood over the lifeless body, slipping the shield back into place on his arm. She bowed her head in both shame and disbelief as she watched her dad's legacy flow down the drain.
