ZERBERUS POV

(I know you want him, his POV I mean hehe he belongs to Odette eheH)

I couldn't recall ever taking what humans called a nap.

I woke up from my first ever nap with my rude mate screaming right in my ear. She climbed all over me with her skinny limbs, cutting her elbows and knees on my scales. My own elbows and knees burned and bled, our blood mixing.

Damn Heavens!

"Zerberus!!!!!!"

I was most fortunate to be an immortal dragon, immune to mortal ailments or frailties, or I was certain she would have driven me deaf. Her voice could reach pitches so high, they rivaled the squawks of a startled partridgd about to become lunch.

Her torso was pressed against mine, flesh again scales, legs and arms belting around me, clutching like she would drown if she let go.

"There's something in the water!"

I craned my neck to the other side to move away from her sky-splitting shriek.

"Ah, that." My eyes lingered on a small whirlpool at the far end of the pool. "It's just Basil."

Her grip tightened around me, and I could feel her heartbeat quicken. "W-who?"

"Basil," I repeated, smirking, "he bathes here after feeding."

"F-feeding?"

"Yes, you know, the occasional rabbit, weasel, or human. Basil isn't picky."

Odette's fear turned into annoyance. "Ah, so it's just Wormy."

What now? "Wormy? What's a wormy?"

She let out a soft giggle, turning and sitting down next to me. With a hiss, I grabbed her waist and pulled her back onto my lap. I wasn't down touching her.

Her small hands palmed my arms. "Wormy. Your basilisk."

My mate had renamed the guardian of my castle, the one who fed on uninvited guests and, on occasion, boring ones.

I shook my head, a smirk playing on my lips. "His name is not Wormy. Basil."

"Wormy suits him better. And how do you know his name?"

I opened my mouth to answer, but she gasped loudly. I sighed. What now? "Did he see us while we, um,... we'vejust—" she fumbled with words.

"Mate?" I helped.

Odette swatted her hand on my shoulder, and I felt a pain. Not where she hit me, but on my own hand since she hurt hers after hitting me in the shoulder.

My palm hurt as did hers. I rolled my eyes, took her hand with my other, and placed a punitive kiss on it before I licked it.

The pain was gone. She shuddered.

"What does he want?" She asked after a while.

"Well, you see, Basil —"

"Wormy," she dared to interrupt.

"Basil is quite the ladies' reptile. He prefers the company of female bathers. But don't worry. I've already marked you as my rat."

Her eyes narrowed, and she shoved me away with a huff. "You're insufferable."

"I was trying to make a... how do you call them?"

She faced me now, her mouth opened like she expected me to feed her. "Jokes?"
