Zerberus?"

"Hmm?"

I turned to my side and propped onto my elbow as I watched him. "How many siblings do you have?"

He shrugged, in the same way as his mother had done.

"So?" I insisted.

We were in my chamber.

A week had passed since the drama with my sister and his cousin.

"It's not like I've counted them," Zerberus drawled, staring up at the ceiling, hands on his wide chest.

My blood cooled. God. Is that how he thinks of family? Forgetting the number of siblings?

I cleared my throat. "I met your mother...you know that, right?"

"That hag? Yes, I'm aware of her existence," he said coldly.

It didn't take a genius to understand why he talked like that. His mother was crazier than he was. Genetics never lie!

"Don't you get along with her?"

He glanced at me. "Why wouldn't I? She stays out of my way."

I snatched his hand, his claws shorter maybe for my benefit. Not understanding what kind of relationship they had, or if they ever had one, I decided to change the topic. "And... I saw your father." Or what was left of him.

Zerberus said nothing, his large hand still in mine.

"I'm sorry, Zerberus." I added.

He tilted his head to the side, silvery locks followed the movement. He smelled like a male dragon....

"For what, sweet thing?"

Warmth slide through my entire body at the endearment. "For your loss?" I said.

He chuckled and gave my butt a firm smack, turning to his side, facing me.

I shoved my fingers into his hair and huffed. "Just when I thought you had hope."

"Ah, your sweetness refreshes me." His eyes flashed, "Your innocence makes me boil."

His tongue invaded my mouth, sure and possessive. He dropped one hand to palm my breast while the other cradled my nape. It was dark outside... Darker than usual. His eyes were darker too, as if he fitted with the environment...or maybe he just controlled it.

"Wait, Zerberus..."

He growled, "say it again."

"What?"

"My name. Who else's?"

Something softened inside my chest, something I desperately wished would stay as hard as stone.

I tipped my chin up. "Only if I can go visit my brother, and my dad." I needed to make sure Derek was fine, and I wanted to bring them resources, like gold, food, drinkable water.

"Out of question."

The audacity!

My palms shoved against his chest. "Why not?"

"It's too dangerous."

"But why? Just a short visit! Please?"

"Your brain is too small to comprehend the kind of conflict we are living through. Your brain will implode if I attempt to explain, rat."

Don't snap. Don't snap. Don't—

But then his lips pressed against my throat, and my mantra disappeared. He licked a trail from my collarbone to my ear, and I forced the moan threatening to spill out back down my throat.
