The fall

A week had passed since Carly's murder. It was time for the staff to start returning to work, since it had affected everyone the nursery had been closed for over a week. The parents and especially Roger were not happy with this. Everyone had to go back to work whether they were ready or not.

Reece managed to have Roger agree to only have the sister nursery open, so the staff didn't have to go back to where Charlotte had died quite yet. Everyone knew they had to come back to work, they didn't have a choice. They were going to try and support each other as best as they could. Even Mia came to help out in the office. She didn't want to be in Marjorie and Reece's house alone. She didn't want to be left with only the thoughts about Charlotte.

Siobhan even made a visit to the sister nursery on this day, as instructed by Roger. It was the first time any of them had seen her since the day Charlotte died. Including Vivian. She hasn't seen her since she took Jamie for ice cream with Autumn. Autumn was the one that dropped Jamie back to her because Siobhan had to rush off home. Vivian was dropping Jamie off for nursery when she spotted Siobhan in the hallway.

Vivian noticed immediately that Siobhan wasn't her usual self and asked her what had happened the night she watched Jamie with Autumn. She knew some of the things that went on in their relationship because of their coffee meetings.

Siobhan told Vivian how she went home because he was texting and calling her frantically threatening to come and find her, so she thought it was best to leave so Jamie didn't get scared. They had been at Autumn and Winter's house so she knew he would be safe. He was fast asleep in Autumn's arms when she left. He had been running around the house on a sugar rush looking at all of Autumn's cool things and tired himself out.

Siobhan didn't say much of anything else to Vivian but Vivian didn't want to try and pry. She just reached out and tucked Siobhan’s hair behind her ear “see you later bon-bon” she winked as she made her way out of the nursery. Siobhan didn't know what that meant but she instantly had a smile grow over her face.

Everyone supported each other throughout the nursery day, they had enough staff so they could have breaks if they needed. They all felt a level of comfort being back at work together, it felt as though they weren't alone throughout this.

At the end of the work day Sorscha decided that she didn't want to go home yet, she wanted to go out somewhere for the night. She wasn't ready to be alone yet. She walked into the office and asked Marjorie if she wanted to go shopping  with her. Their town's shopping center didn't close until 10pm. “Of course my love, why don't you head off and I will meet you in the shopping center carpark?” Marjorie agreed. Sorscha smiled, “Grand, I will see you there!”

Sorscha drove to the carpark, she was looking forward to shopping with Marjorie. She hasn't done anything like this since before Clodagh died. She parked on the second level of the carpark and stood near the edge waiting for Marjorie. The fence behind her didn't look very strong so she made sure not to lean on it.

It was getting dark now and it was quiet in the carpark. It wasn't very busy. There were a few cars driving up and parking or leaving but overall it was quiet. Sorscha was looking down at her phone and when she looked back up she saw headlights coming towards her. It was just a random person trying to park but it terrified Sorscha. It reminded her of Clodagh. It caught her off guard and she stepped backwards.

Her back slammed into the fence and sure enough it wasn't secure. It fell behind her and Sorscha fell with it. She screamed as she realised she was falling. She thought she was going to die. It felt like she was falling in slow motion but in reality she slammed into the ground like a ton of bricks. She thought this was the end. Little did she know, that wasn't the case at all.

Sometimes our minds choose to dance with despair
A car engine roars, the sound cuts through the air
The world spinning wild, a dizzying fall
Tumbling through darkness, no one answers her call

Perhaps this time monsters were all in her mind
It’s not her time to leave this world behind
As she falls into nothing, there’s a flicker of light
There’s a spark of resolve and it’s igniting tonight

What if I told you, that Sorscha will rise
Life born anew, a blessing in disguise
So heed this tale of a perilous dance
Sometimes this life will give us a chance
