Cold, hard ground. Pain, so much pain. Sorscha laid in a pile on the floor, she couldn't move. She couldn't tell if she was bleeding or if she was just in incredible amounts of pain. She couldn't lift her head. She fell onto her back. She felt paralysed.
Marjorie was driving to meet Sorscha at the carpark. As she approached she saw her laying bleeding onto the street outside. She immediately pulled up, ignoring the no parking signs. She didn't care about that right now, she just wanted to get over to Sorscha.
She rushed over to her, fearing the worst. Despite the pain Sorscha smiled at her, at least if she was going to die it wouldn't be alone. Marjorie immediately rang for an ambulance as she tried to gently check over Sorscha’s injuries. She didn't move her at all in case she hurt her more but she wanted to ensure she wasn't bleeding out anywhere. Thankfully, she wasn't.
Marjorie sat beside her until the paramedics arrived, talking to her and keeping her awake. Sorscha asked her to stroke her hair, she found this really comforting. Marjorie gently took out Sorscha's ponytails so she could run her fingers through her hair, “You are going to be okay my love, I've got you.”
When Sorscha arrived at hospital she was made unconscious while they checked on her injuries. She was very lucky, she hadn't broken any bones, she just had a lot of cuts and bruises on her back, shoulders and arms. She needed a few stitches in the back of her neck and on her left shoulder, but overall she was extremely fortunate to not be badly injured.
Marjorie sat in the room with her the entire time that she was asleep, waiting for her to wake up. She had informed the other staff about what had happened but she told them not to come to the hospital yet, not until she asked for them to be.
As sorscha woke up she finally realised where she was, she was in the same hospital Clodagh had died in. Not even just the same hospital, the same room. She was in the same room the love of her life had died in.
As soon as Sorscha realised this she started screaming. Marjorie immediately shot out of her chair and hit the call button, she thought she was screaming in physical pain. However, she was screaming in emotional pain.
Tears were streaming down her face and she was trying to get up and move. She couldn't though because she was on heavy pain relief and incredibly sore. “Sorscha, it's okay! I've got you. You're safe!” Marjorie said as she gently sat on the side of the hospital bed. She began running her fingers through Sorscha's hair, just as she did waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
Sorscha grabbed onto Marjorie's arm. She was hyperventilating and couldn't get her words out, but Marjorie knew this meant for her to stay there with her. She began talking to Sorscha trying to reassure her with words and gently wiped the tears from her eyes.
Sorscha began calming down so Marjorie knew her comforting was working. She gently sat further onto the bed beside her so Sorscha could hug into her if it wasn't too painful. Sorscha laid her head on Marjorie's shoulder and continued sobbing. Marjorie's shirt quickly became tear soaked but Sorscha's breathing was finally coming to a steady pace. Marjorie decided in that moment to plant a motherly kiss onto Sorscha's forehead, she knew this calmed the toddlers during tantrums so she thought it might help in this moment.
When the hospital staff came in they checked over Sorscha again just in case but they assured Marjorie that she had just suffered a panic attack. “Marj.” sniffled out Sorscha. “Yes my love? Am I hurting you? Do you want me to move?” Marjorie responded worryingly. “No, no. It's not that.” Sorscha took a deep breath for continuing, “This is the room-”
Sorscha started sobbing again, Marjorie knew exactly what she was trying to say. She moved slightly so Sorscha could look into her eyes. She wiped her tears and smiled at her before reassuring her “You are okay, I'm not going anywhere.”
