A/N: i do NOT ship the idols irl because that's just weird and any shippers like that are weird. i'm only using their names and faces because i can't think of my own and i also love heejake too. ❤️

don't forget to stream their newest album romance:untold. such a banger, i've been listening to it 24/7.

also, i'm british so some words may not be the same as the american way (sorry). i also don't know how korean schools work so i'm just going with the flow lmao. btw, all lowercase words are intended :) enjoy!

my back hit the locker, the sound ringing in my ears. my head was pounding and my whole body felt numb. another hit to the ribs made me collapse in agony.

i distinctly heard one of the bullies snicker. "couldn't even last ten minutes. what a pussy." his two friends laughed along with him, spewing insults at my face.

"listen here, punk." he grabbed my hair and pulled me up so i could see his face properly, which was pretty much useless since i could barely open my eyes. "you tell anyone about this and we won't hesitate to put you in your place. and don't think we won't hurt your stupid little friends either."

then he dropped me and walked away with his friends. my body slumped on the ground. i clutched the side of my body as i coughed out something that looks suspiciously like blood. i honestly couldn't tell in my state. all i know was that everywhere ached.

my last thought before passing out was, 'why me?'

"he's awake!" i heard a voice next to me call out. my eyes blinked open to see jungwon's face staring at mine, blocking my view. "how are you doing?"

i tried to sit up but fall back onto the plush mattress instead. my body felt like shit at the moment. "where-"

"hospital. we were all so worried about you, you know?" jungwon said. he leaned in to give me a small hug when someone else beat him to it.

i felt something, or rather someone crash into me. i almost passed out a second time from it. i groaned in pain at the sudden movement.

"sunoo, get off him! he's still resting," jungwon exclaimed.

"oh right. sorry," sunoo apologised. he removed himself from me and i breathed a sigh of relief. "sim jaeyun! do you know how scared we were yesterday?" he continued, practically screaming at me.

i had to mentally resist myself from blocking my ears. 'does he seriously have to be this loud?'

"my... bad" i coughed again, sending a jolt of pain up my sore throat. i'm fairly sure my face didn't look much better than how i felt at the moment. "w-what happened?"

"chaewon found you on the floor yesterday, after her chess club and immediately called sunoo since they're friends. and then he alerted me and we called your parents. in fact, they're talking to the doctor right now," jungwon explained to me.

yesterday's events came rushing back to me at once. i honestly wished i had received amnesia from that blow to the head because i wanted to forget everything that has happened in my life at this point.

suddenly, my parents came rushing in with a doctor trailing behind them.

"sweetie! how are you? are you okay?" my mother cried. "does it still hurt? do you need anything? oh baby, you don't know how worried me and your father were!"

i managed to smile weakly at them until the doctor spoke up. "your condition is fine but you'll need to stay here for two days to properly rest and heal your injuries."

i shrugged. at least i didn't have to attend school so might as well make the most of it.

life in a hospital bed wasn't too bad. i mean, it was a little boring only watching the television but the bed was nice and soft.

sunoo and jungwon managed to stop by after school to bring me a stuffed teddy and a card which i found super cheesy. i thanked them nonetheless and we chatted a bit until they had to go home for dinner. my parents also visited me another three times to check up on me and i had to convince them multiple times that i was doing fine. they could be a little overprotective at times.

the nurses informed me that i'd be discharged in an hour or so. i patiently waited for my mother to arrive since my father had to work late.

however, on the ride back, she didn't speak which i found a little strange since she's usually a really chatty person. i gulped; something must've occurred for her to act like this.

my mother sat me down on the kitchen table, heaving out a long sigh before looking at me. i stared at her expectantly, waiting for her to talk. "are you okay, mum? you've been very quiet."

she looked down once again. "ah, right. jaeyun, your father and i have been discussing a bit about what must be done once you're finally out of the hospital." she paused for a second, like she's hesitating.

i urged her to carry on. she was being really weird right now and i wanted her to hurry up and spit it out so i could go play my video games, since i was deprived of it for the last couple days.

"i know you might not take this well but we've hired you a bodyguard to look out for you at school since we aren't able to. we've already spoken to the young man and he agreed to take on this offer so i'm asking you to as well." she pursed her lips, waiting for an answer.

i quickly stood up. "are you kidding me? i've told you i don't need one. i'm fine by myself, mum!"

"i knew you were going to react this way but you've got to hear me out right now, sim jaeyun. turning home with bruises and a bloody face everyday was already bad enough but them sending you to the hospital is too far! we've held back long enough now. i will not stand by watching some- some uneducated delinquents picking on my son!" she stood up too now, tears streaking her face. "do you know how worried we are about your well-being?"

i could feel my eyes welling up l. "i understand how you're feeling, mum, but walking around school with a personal bodyguard is just gonna cause me more issues than i already have."

"not if he's by your side at all times. i've talked to your principal multiple times and that jackass hasn't been doing anything to make the bullying stop! it's either that or you're moving schools, so make up your mind now."

i gulped - i thought about my friends, sunoo and jungwon and how badly i'd miss seeing them at school everyday, laughing or making silly jokes. i also thought about sunghoon, who i've had a massive crush on for years and how i would probably never see him again.

"fine," i sighed. "but if he annoys me too much, i'm firing him "

my mother's face lit up in delight. she hugged me briefly and kissed me on the cheek. "i love you so much, dear. i just want what's best for you; i hope you know that your father and i are here for you anytime, and so are your friends. you can speak to us, alright?" she rufflled my hair playfully.

i gave her a small smile to show my appreciation. i'll admit that her little speech made me tear up a bit. "thanks mum, love you too."

then, i rushed up the stairs and flopped onto my bed. i sighed at how sad my life was. i just couldn't wait to go to school tomorrow with some random guy trailing behind me at all times. i could almost hear my bullies mocking me. before i knew it, i drift into sleep without a chance to go on my computer.
