chapter two

A/N: i changed the last chapter to past tense since it's easier to write like that lol

my alarm buzzed. i turned to shut it off and sat up groggily, rubbing my eyes. i had a longer sleep than usual since i dozed off at around dinnertime yesterday.

i showered quickly and finished my morning routine in under thirty minutes. then, i went downstairs only to find my mum talking to a person.

"jaeyun! come here, sweetie; let me introduce you to your new bodyguard, heeseung. well technically, he's not your bodyguard since he's around the same age as you so consider him a friend who protects you. i already know he's gonna be perfect for you. look at this handsome face!" my mum exclaimed when she saw me.

my face paled. lee heeseung was standing right in front of me. sunghoon's friend, heeseung. one of the most popular guys at school, heeseung. now this was going to be awkward.

"might have to get myself a bodyguard," my mum chuckled whilst swooning over him.

i wanted to scream, run away and never show myself to a single person anymore. somebody save me. "mum! please stop."

she cooed at me. "have a good day at school, you two! heeseung, please make sure my son doesn't get hurt. i'm trusting you with this job, darling."

heeseung bowed respectfully and assured her that i'd be fine. i rolled my eyes - i nearly forgot about this whole ordeal.

i grabbed a piece of toast from the plate and walked out with him following behind me. he wasn't technically dressed as a bodyguard but i assumed it'd be strange with him attending school with a suit on.

no one said a word in the car. i stared out the window, wondering how exactly my mother found heeseung and convinced him to even be around me.

i caught a glimpse of the man next to me. anyone with eyes could see that he was handsome. i could understand how he was popular; i mean all his friends are hot as fuck.

once he parked the car, we both stepped out and walked towards the entrance. i started thinking about how everyone would react seeing the bullied kid and the popular kid going to school together. i haven't even told my friends yet.

"hey, sim jake right? since i'm like your bodyguard or whatever you call it, i need to stay by your side at all times so you're gonna sit with us at lunch," heeseung informed me.

i gulped - sit with him at lunch? this meant that i would see sunghoon too which made feel giddy but also queasy because how was i gonna act normal around him?

"uh, alright i guess? can i bring my friends too?" i tentatively asked. i needed moral support next to me and it also made me feel better since i knew jungwon had a fat crush on jay. once he hears about this, he's gonna thank me.

"yeah, they won't mind. especially jay," he chuckled. "he talks nonstop about jungwon anyway. he'd be delighted actually."

my eyebrows shot up. did jay like jungwon back? i couldn't wait to break the news to my friends. this was like a big moment for all of us.

we entered together and i casted my eyes downwards once i heard the students whispering around us.

"is that heeseung? what's he doing with that random kid?"

"i think his name is james or something. i heard he gets bullied by junghyeon and his friends."

"what are they doing together?"

"maybe heeseung bullied him into doing his homework or something."

i felt everyone's gaze on me and turned around to walk back home. this was the most attention i've gotten in my whole life and i felt the need to throw up. then i felt a hand on my back. i looked to my left to see heeseung touching me.

"oh my god! why's my prince touching that loser?"

"hey, don't listen to them. they don't know anything. it's my job to keep you safe so tell me if anybody bothers you," he smiles at me.

i nodded slowly. was i dreaming or something? everything felt so surreal but then again, i wasn't really complaining.

i spotted jungwon and sunoo and the lockers. when they saw me, they immediately rushed to us with their mouthes hanging open. they sized heeseung up and down and looked back and forth between us.

"what's going on? i heard some people say that you guys came to school together but i thought it was a rumour," sunoo whispered loudly.

"yeah, what's going on? are you okay? is he hurting you?" jungwon asked, concerned. both of them completely ignored heeseung who clearly heard him.

"nothing's going on. i forgot to mention yesterday that my mum hired me a bodyguard and it turned out to be heeseung. surprise?" i summed things up for them quickly.

"HEESEUNG?" they both whisper shouted. "how did your mum even find him?"

"that's what i was wondering too but guess what? we're sitting with them at lunch from now on."

jungwon looked like he was about to pass out. "are you serious?" he clutched his chest dramatically. "this is my chance to talk to jay!"

sunoo rolled his eyes. "please, we all know you're too scared to even be within a 5 metre radius around him."

"what are you talking about? at least i don't make a move on everyone i see!"

"yeah because i'm not scared to be rejected. they all accepted anyway so it's a win-win for all of us."

"what a player," jungwon muttered under his breath. "anyways, nice to meet you, heeseung." he bowed his head, with sunoo following in suit.

he nodded at them and greeted them back. we chatted a bit before the bell rang, disrupting our conversation.

"i'll find you at lunch," heeseung told us and walked off to his next class. i watched him meet up with three of his friends. one of them looked mortified when he mentioned something i couldn't hear.

"i literally can't believe that just happened," sunoo squealed. "please thank your mum for us."

i laughed. "it is a bit weird." then i told them how heeseung mentioned jay talking about jungwon, to which he practically screamed at. they told me how junghyeon, yeongmin and wonsik were suspended for two weeks.

"i can't believe they're only suspended for two weeks. i mean after what they did to you! they deserve expulsion. i actually hate principal yoon," jungwon complained as we sat down in the class.

i know right? we need a different principal asap. he wouldn't even had done anything if we didn't beg him," sunoo agreed.

miss han walked in two minutes later and started her boring lesson. i started thinking about ways i could get closer to sunghoon since i could now sit with them at lunch.

heeseung had waited for me after all my lessons so far which was really strange but i didn't mention it. he walked with me and my friends towards the cafeteria where he directed us to the table a few other people sat at.

i could see my friends nervously approach and i felt the exact same way. what if i make a bad first impression to sunghoon? what if i accidentally trip or something?

"guys, this is jake and his friends, jungwon and sunoo," heeseung introduced our names.

jay looked like he was about to piss his pants but he managed to nod at us, casting his eyes away from jungwon. i could feel the awkawrd tension already.

ni-ki barely even glanced over and continued munching on his lunch.

meanwhile, sunghoon just gave a small smile as they both told us their names. oh, how i could stare at his eyes forever. this was definitely a dream come true.
