Emily POV
I followed him into a huge chamber, while trying to study what sort of creature he was. One of his arms looked as if it belonged to a tiger while the other seemed reptilian. His legs were a sort of mix between a cheetah and a kangaroo. A cat's tail poked out of his back, and though the Animal King's torso was mostly covered in white fur, his bare chest was visible around his abs and pecs.
His face also appeared to be made up from several animals. He had a long snout-like nose and jagged teeth, with big fangs protruding from his lower jaw. Elfish ears framed his face, covered in the same white fur that was on his chest. Straight horns grew from stumps atop his head, and he never seemed to blink his eyes.
I continued to study him, and didn't pay any attention to the fact that he was leading me deeper and deeper into a maze. Suddenly, he disappeared , leaving me to stare around at my new surroundings. Stone walls towered over me, but I could make out a television screen turning on high above me. The Animal king appeared, a wolfish grin on his face.
"Welcome to my Testing Chamber, were I determine your level of skill, and which animal I should fuse you with. I hope you have fun! Also, if your wondering how I control your buddy," he held up a rag doll of Speedy and me," it's all in the voodoo dolls. Unfortunately, I need a piece of hair or skin or blood, but no matter. I'm sure I'll get that stuff eventually.
Actually, I've fought against the Titans before. I've been stealing the powers of the enemies they've beaten, so don't think you know who I am! Oh, look at me going on and on when there's work to be done. Have fun finding your way out of the maze, and please survive. I could use another powered person in my animal army!"
The screen shut off and I heard buzzing as turrets started to activate. I stumbled through each corridor, trying to remember which way I came in. And then it hit me. I don't have to find my way out, I can teleport!
I materialized on top of the wall. Ten turrets shot lazily at me as the Animal King spoke again. "Oh, a cheater. Maybe a sly fox. But she is quite loyal... oh, is this thing still on? Turn it off! Turn it off!" I laughed to myself, but not for long. The turrets had started to shoot like machine guns, each one locked onto me. I teleported around but those guns were fast. Every time I moved, it was as if the guns knew where I was going.
They continued to shoot at me, most missing me. The ones that hit, though, were insanely painful. I struggled to walk forward, not teleporting anymore, because I didn't have the strength to try. More and more darts lodged into my back. I tried one last time to teleport, and found myself in the room with Ani. I jumped on the bed and passed out.
"Emily! EMILY! Wake up! We need to get out of here! Do you think you can teleport one more time?" I heard her far away voice.
I struggled to sit up, Ani's arm lifting me onto my feet. I tried three times to teleport, but my aching body wouldn't let me. I summoned all of my strength, and teleported into a lush, green forest. Oh well. Good enough for me.
Someone's calling my name. I have to wake up. I have to wake up!
Sorry for the wait, guys! I've been gone and had a little bit of writer's block. Anyway. I hope you've enjoyed this book so far! I've really enjoyed writing it, and it's one of my first (I'm writing two at the same time.) Also, any ideas who the Animal King is? If you have any ideas, please comment! I'd really like to know what you think! Just remember, he was in the original series (and, he's one of my personal favorite bad guys.) I hope you have a good rest of the summer! -FastFox27
