While I slept on the couch that night, the scientists did what they did best.

Science.

Jane and Eric had worked up some technology to do something to patch the portals during the convergence to make sure the fabric of reality is not torn apart. I wasn't very confident in the woman who was close to death just hours ago and the man without pants, but I had no other choice. And I've seen Jane's research, I could trust her brain was okay just enough after the whole ordeal to pull this off- it was better than anyone else's healthy brain, that's for sure.

Thankfully, it wasn't my job to know what it was supposed to do, my job was to protect, so when we got to Greenwich after about an hour long car ride with a car sick prone Thor, I protected who needed the most protection. Darcy and the intern.

"Hey kid, I never caught your name," I said, the cold morning air spiking my senses as my breath crystallized in front of me.

"Oh, ar, Ian. Ian Boothby," He said. "And... you did. You must've forgotten. That's okay, most people do..."

We had just hopped out of the van and onto the parking lot of the Royal Naval College, which was apparently somehow the place we needed to be, and were standing out by the trunk while Darcy opened it up.

"Boothby? What is that, Scottish?" I asked.

"Ar, I think it's just English," He said, looking up at me with a little squint in his eye, the rising sun gleaming straight at his face.

"... Don't Scottish people speak english?" I asked, my answer only to be cut off by Darcy.

"Focus!" She said, "This is important. We have to hammer them all around the site and then Jane and Erik will activate them from the tower."

"I'm already 4 steps ahead of you," I said quickly, helping her pick up the weird rod shaped structures with antennas. "I may not know much, but I do know what the instructions were, Jane kept repeating them 22 million times on the way here. You're the one not focused."

Just as I said that, Ian fired one of them up, the machine letting out a beep as I almost continued ranting, not paying any attention to what he was doing.

"They're taped together," He said, turning back to face me and Darcy.

"Do you even know what these things do?" She asked, becoming very serious, very quickly.

I took a tiny step away, just in case that beeping was to signify it was about to explode, reaching forward to pull Ian away if needed.

I didn't know how they would keep the fabric of reality together. It could very well be with explosions, but you'd think they'd make that clear.

"Uh... No?" Ian answered, and I felt a little less alone, but a little more afraid.

Darcy paused. "Neither do I."

Being the tall and strong one of the group, I was tasked with carrying the mysterious and possibly dangerous machines all the way across the college.

There were four main buildings, two on each side, with an intersecting walkway in the middle. We were in between them at the southside on the walkway, which faced a large river.

Darcy rushed us through, immediately ordering me to drop them.

"Pick it up, Ian! Start hammering!" She yelled, her voice straining a bit. We were beginning to become a little bit of a spectacle to the college-goers.

I had washed my dress from Asgard last night, as it was the only thing I still had that actually fit me, along with the silver breastplate and leather wrist guards, looking as if I stepped straight out of a ren fair. I liked it, but it brought a lot of unwanted attention.
