A police car pulled up to a door just outside the Stokes County Maximum Security Center. The door opened and the police car entered. A guard approached a door and inserted a key to unlock the door. The door opened and the guard approached a laser grid. He then placed his hand on the scanner and the light turned green and the lasers switched off, letting him pass through the door.

The guard then crossed a small bridge and moved towards an eye scanner. Taking off his hat, the guard leaned forward and the scanner scanned his eye. The scanner flashed green and the wall opened into another room. The guard entered the room and walked over to a control panel and pressed a few buttons and a big guy in some kind of liquid container field, his arms and legs chained together, rose from the floor.

The guard then pressed another button and the liquid began to flow. This then showed that the guard really is Mystique.

"Wake up, Kane. It's time you found your brother... Charles Xavier." she said.

Somewhere in the woods, the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants stood in front of a bus as Hawk explained what they were going to do.

"You're not here to string beads. You're not here to do sack races or pony rides. You're going to hike 30 km, abseil... and cross rapids clinging to a rope and your courage. Is that clear?" Hawk asked.

"Yes, Sergeant Hawk!" They replied.

"Is that clear?"

"Yes, Sergeant Hawk!" They repeated.

"Welcome to Iron Back Survival Camp, a name you won't soon forget." He said as he passed Scott. "Now. We have a young man here, Scott Sumner."

"Summers." Scott corrected.

"His academic record makes him your team leader. Follow his orders. You have 10 minutes to gather your gear and report to the field. Dismissed!" Hawk said as he walked away.

"Oh, I'll be dead in two days." Kitty complained.

"What about me? I'm from the city." Added Evan.

"What did we do to deserve this?" Kurt asked.

"I'm deserting. Does anyone know how to start a school bus?" Rogue asked.

"I do." Deker replied.

"Whoa, whoa, slow down, soldiers." Said Scott, putting a hand on Rogue and Deker's shoulder. "We're not going to chicken out in front of the whole school. And the teacher approves of this practice."

"Yeah. At least he gave us a choice. Survival training here or with Wolverine." Jean relativized.

"Talk about a choice. Besides, how come you didn't choose to train with him, Deker?" Rogue asked.

"I've already done it with him. And let me tell you, you were right to choose that." Deker replied.

"It couldn't have been that bad. He thinks of you as his son. He would have been lenient with you." Said Kitty.

"How sweet of you to think that, Kitty." Laughs Deker. "But it isn't. Besides, it's not going to be that bad... although I hate being talked down to by a low-cost version of Sergeant Hartman."

"Yeah, come on, we can do this." Scott encouraged before the X-Men collected their equipment and left.

"Group leader, academic achievement. It should have been me." Said Fred.

"You can't even spell 'academic achievement', Blob." Pietro retorted.

"But I can spell 'convict', which is the name of this band of good guys when I find them alone in the woods." Said Fed.
