I shifted slightly and gradually opened my eyes. "Sorry, I fell asleep," I murmured as he kissed my forehead. He climbed out of the car and walked around to my door to open it. I stepped out, and together we ascended the stairs to the front door.

"Your house is beautiful, Elex. Do you live here alone?"

"Just the two of us, darling," he replied. "Let me show you to your room, and later, when you're feeling better, I will give you a house tour."

Standing in front of a double door, he opens it, and I'm like, "Wow, this is beautiful, Elex, this is too much."

"It's nothing; let me show you the rest of the room. And the colors—how did you know I liked these colors?"

"I believe I understand you better than you understand yourself. If you're confused by this, it's not something to worry about. This is your bathroom, fully stocked with everything you need and like, all in there."

"This is beautiful, Elex."

"Blake found your handbag; this is also for you." He handed me a brown paper bag; inside the bag was a phone and a laptop.

"I'm sorry, Elex, I can't take this, it's too much. I'm grateful for all you are doing, but this is too much."

"I've entered my number, and your friend Bella is worried about you. It's a gift for you, and if you don't decline it, please, Elara."

"Thank you so much," I said, standing on my tiptoes to give him a hug.

"Why don't you go take a warm bath, relax a little, and I can heat up dinner. I have your strawberry milkshake ready."

"Thank you. I will be downstairs."

He walked out, closing the door behind him, and I stood in the beautiful room. Holding the phone, he gave me close to my heart, that's when I broke down and cried. Slowly standing up and walking to the bathroom, I changed out of these clothes into the warm bath. I stayed there for about 30 minutes, being careful not to get my wound wet. I'm so lucky to be safe, but I'm so sad for those who didn't make it. Why did they have to kill those innocent people? Why?

Standing in the walk-in closet, I'm looking at all the stuff. "Oh, let's try these; they look comfortable to wear. Wow, it's difficult to wear this shirt with my wound."

I sit near the window gazing at all the trees, pondering what this man is doing to me. Is it weird to like someone so quickly, or is it just me? He can have any woman he wants; he is a beautiful guy who knows how to treat a woman. Why would he like a plain woman who works in a bakery, who has no future and no money? Maybe he is just a nice guy who likes to help others, but then the fact hit me: I'm no good guy, Elara; my world is dangerous. What does that even mean?

Standing up and walking out of the room, I began searching for Alex. Wow, his house is as big as a mall, so I call his name, "Elex, I'm in here!" I can hear a voice downstairs. Looking in every room downstairs, I find Elex in the kitchen.

"Sit down, love. Dinner is ready, and this is for you." He gifted me a strawberry milkshake with extra whipped cream.

"Thank you, I love milkshakes."
