Walking out of the room, closing the door behind me, I can hear silent cries. I so badly want to go and hold her, but I know she needs to let it out. In the kitchen, I heat up the food. While in her presence, she calls my name. I inform her that I'm in the kitchen, remembering she doesn't know where the kitchen is. I slowly walk to the door and bump into her; she stumbles a bit, but I hold her close to me.
"Come, my love, this is for you." I gifted her a strawberry milkshake with extra whipped cream on top, and she smiles at me.
"I enjoy my milkshake."
"I know you do. Are you in pain?"
"Yes, a bit, but it's not too bad."
"If you are done eating, you need to take your medicine and go to bed. The doctor will come in two weeks. I don't want you to move too much."
"Yes, sir. May I ask you something, Elex?"
"Evening, is it okay if I call my boss? I really don't want to lose my job."
"Don't worry, you will not lose your job. I will call him tomorrow. Did you call your friend?"
"No, not yet. I will call after dinner."
We sit here in silence, finishing the meal. I'm looking at her, unsure of what to do with my feelings. Should I let her go or not? I don't want to hurt her; I can sense her innocence. That smile she gives me every time I look at her, we will both get hurt, I can't do that.
"Thank you, Elex. Are you full?"
"Yes, thank you."
"Let me walk you to your room."
She smiles at me, picking up her plate.
"Leave that; the maids will do it."
Walking back to her room, she stands at the door.
"Your medicine is on the nightstand. Goodnight, beautiful."
"Goodnight, Elex." She gives me a hug, and I stand there, stunned. "Thank you for everything; you are my savior, my hero."
Smiling at her, she closes the door, and I walk to my office to get some work done. Sitting in my office chair, I call Blake, knowing he is at the warehouse.
"Blake, can we talk?"
"Yes, I am almost at your house."
I'm in my study, reading through some documents when Blake walks in. He says in a loud voice, "You want to see me, boss."
"Please be quiet; Elara is sleeping here."
"You mean she is there in your house with you, the world's most dangerous boss, that girl is in your house?"
"What does that supposed to mean, Blake? I can keep her safe. How did you know about the robbery?"
"I was in the area when I saw Elara enter the store. She claims that someone was following her. Was that you?"
"Okay, man, here is the truth: you know you are my best friend, but I do have my own life that I don't like to share with you."
"Blake, is it you?"
A minute goes by, and he gives me an answer that makes me so angry.
"Yes, that was me the first time, and I did follow her to the bookstore. Because I like her, I think I love her; she is the girl of my dreams."
"What the fuck. You just shed your love here."
"I can't help it, man. I did something I will never forget. But just hear me out, I was jealous. I was taking pictures of Elara, and I just lost it."
"What are you talking about? Taking her picture?"
I was red with anger, I wanted to explode.
"I was the one who hurt her. It was my fault; I know I messed up."
"So, you are the one that planned the robbery then?"
"That was me, so you can point out the robbers because Elara's life is in danger."
"You are a very calm man; I don't know you to be like that. Is it because of the girl?"
"That girl has a name, Blake. You have until tomorrow to bring me every last man that helped you. I did not know you felt this way about her. You better go, Blake; it's for your own good."
He stood up and walked out of my study, pondering what type of punishment I would give. I can't believe someone would go that far just because of jealousy.
