"Hello?"

I answer the ringing phone with my raspy voice.

"Mi hijo."

I sit up a little and notice Emily still lying on me. I wipe the sleep out of my eyes.

"Mamá ?"

I whisper, not wanting to wake Emily.

"How are you?"

"I'm good-"

"Andrès. I want to hear how things are with you."

A sigh leaves my lips. I look down at the beauty that's on me.

"Mamá, I think I fell for someone."

I hear her laugh, and it makes me smile.

"Is she a good person?"

"I believe so, yeah."

"Good."

"How are you?"

"I didn't call to talk about me."

I sigh. Knowing how things are for her makes me feel guilty about leaving.

"You have a new family now. One that will love and take care of you."

"Mamá-"

"I have to go now. Te quiero, I will still find you. I promise."

The line goes dead before I can tell her I love her back. I take a deep breath and run my hands down my face.

"You okay?"

I look down, and I'm met with those beautiful eyes I love.

"Well, hello, sleeping beauty."

She laughs and turns her head.

"Sorry, I fell asleep on you."

"It's okay. Did you not get sleep last night ?"

"I did."

"Oh ."

I respond, confused. She turns to face me and laughs.

"You're such a dork."

She gets off me and heads into the kitchen. I follow behind and watch her get a banana from the fruit bowl.

"Would you like one?"

I nod my head, and she hands me a banana.

"What time is it?"

She asked, and I pulled out my phone and showed her the time. Her eyebrows frowned.

"Does Mia always text you that much ?"

I returned my phone and looked at the ten texts from Mia and three missed calls. I then saw that it was 3:30 p.m. How long had we slept?

"I have to call her back."

I dialed her number and walked into the living room without saying anything else.

"Andrès, where are you ?!"

She yells on the phone, and I pull it away from my ears.

"Jesus Mia. Stop yelling in the microphone."

"Where are you."

She repeats.

I look behind me and see Emily staring at me.

"I'm at a friend-"

"You're with her, right?"

I sigh and roll my eyes.
