Damon Swan has always been told he had a different mind. A peculiar take on reality, his mind played tricks on him, allowing him to approach certain things in a different way. It had taken Damon many years to try to know his own darkness. That's what made him best in this situation. Knowing his own darkness allowed him to deal with other people's darkness.

"Get to the car." Damon told Hardin, who slowly moved from his spot. The younger twin went to grab Bella's hand, but Edward beat him to it.

Damon turned around when he he felt Hardin tap his back three times. He looked towards Edward he seemed to be adressing the space around them, and his grip on Bella's wrist was tight.

"Edward." Damon's voice was stern. "Let her go." He moved towards the bronze haired vampire.

Edward looked up at him, wincing at his thoughts, all he could hear was how Damon planned to kill him in the next three seconds if he didn't remove his hands.

One.

Edward quickly let Bella go as Damon nodded for Hardin to take Bella to the truck. Alice and Emmett are on their tale.

"Damon." Edward kept his pace the same as Damon's fast one, as they walked towards the Jeep. "You don't know what you're doing. These are vampires!"

Damon sent the bat to Edward's knee quickly and hard, the metal bat bent, but Edward's knees buckled.

It didn't cause Edward any harm, but it did catch him off guard and cause him to stumble. It also stung a little.

"See that, Edwin." Damon stopped so he could stand in front of Edward. "That's called knowing the opponent. You think you know what to do because you can read minds but you don't. Because you're afraid to do what it takes. You don't think like we do."

Edward didn't need to question who he meant by we. He knew Damon meant physopathic people. People who struggled with it containing their darkness.

"I get it." Damon whispered. His presence was different, and Edward could feel it. It was like he became darker, colder, and more aggressive.

Almost as if you could now see the inside of his mind on his body.

Damon smoothed out Edward's jacket, pulling him closer, a smile on his face. "Listen, we're doing things my way." Damon told him. "So you're going to get in the truck and hold Bella. Be a nice caring boyfriend, or I will tear you apart."

Damon knew Edward wasn't ready to take the lead on this, and Edward knew that as well. Damon knew how to handle men like this, how to get inside their head, and how to take away their power.

The only difference was now that the man he was dealing with was a vampire. But that didn't change James's mind. All it changed was his strength and speed.

The elder Swan was a talented driver speeding past the trees and down the roads like he was in some race against time.

"Where are we going?" Bella questioned Damon, who took a glance in the mirror to see his younger sisters worried face.
