Santino, Lucio's pet turtle, was rescued from a pipe that bursted.

It was one Saturday after a storm and he was playing by the sidewalk, jumping between puddles. Clearing up the miscellany of junk and earth in our street is hard work. Every neighbor don their equipments and tighten their boots in attempt to salvage anything possible.

As I was raking the leaves that got stuck in a drainage, I see Lucio running towards me with a small pail between his arms.

"Look what I got, daddy!! You won't believe it!"

"What did I tell you about running on a slippery road?"

"But daddy, you won't believe it! I have to show mom!" he exclaimed between quick breaths.

I took the pail in one hand and examined the little creature, paddling frantically in panic.

"We don't want to wake mommy right now, Lucio. She just took her medicine."

Scooping it in my palm, I showed Lucio how this new hatchling seem scared and confused. We went ahead to wash it with a warmer water and placed it in a clear jar. We watch it glide across the container in a smooth calculated movement.

"You're safe now little turtle. Don't worry we'll find your friends. Dad, what do turtles eat?" He was very much consumed by his little friend that I had to chase him at the foot steps.

"No dirty boots inside please! Lucio, hey!"

We went inside the house to start cleaning up.
