Three young dwarf siblings walked on wearily through the little village of the Shire. Fili Durin, with his big hands in his pockets, blue eyes ever watching for anything that threatened his brother and sister. He knew that they were not likely to find strife where they were now, but it was his natural instinct to look out for them, as the oldest by a good five years.
Kili Durin walked alongside his twin sister, his dark brown hair a scraggly mess, his even darker eyes wide as he took in the quaint little hobbit holes before them, ever desperate to see every inch of the world in all its wonder. His curiosity would be the death of him someday, Fili always said.
Suva Durin was enjoying the peaceful feel in the air, the breeze that ruffled her clothes, and was playing with the runestone in her pocket, the same as the one her ma had also given her brothers.
Though she was twin to Kili, they could not have looked more different. While his eyes were a rich, dark brown, hers were a soft shade of blue, the exact same shade as her uncle's. While his hair was as dark as his eyes, hers was a slightly lighter shade than Fili's.
She was often called lemonhead by Kili, something that annoyed her greatly, but she always had a witty response in return that would set him right.
And she always, always looked out for her brothers. Even then, as they walked along the narrow dirt road, she would take a few moments to glance around at them, then returned her eyes to the path ahead.
"Now where did Gandalf say this Mister Boggin's house was?" I ask, turning to my brothers as we walk.
"Bag End, or... something like that." Fee replies. "He said he'd put a mark on the door for us. Lot of good that will do when we can't even find the blasted house!"
Kee groans. "Mahal, how is uncle going to find it if we can't?"
I pat my twin on the shoulder. "He'll figure it out Kee." I say, then look around at the familiar hobbit holes we're passing. "Hold on. I feel like we've seen these..." I scratch my head.
Kili groans again. "Because we've been here before!" He suddenly leans heavily on my shoulders.
"Get off, you great lump!" I grunt, attempting to shove him off.
"Ugggghhhh. I'm so tired. And hungry. We've been walking all day." He whines.
Talk about dramatic siblings.\
I give up my attempts to detach myself from my irritating brother and pull sharply on his hair, something which gets him every time. He yelps and tugs on my own choppy hair, and before long, we're rolling around in the dirt, laughing hysterically, fists flying everywhere. Fili sighs and massages his forehead.
"Mahal save me from my ridiculous siblings." He mutteres to himself.
"Ha! Got you! Do you surrender?" I cry, pinning a panting Kee to the ground. He struggles in vain to roll out of my grip.
"Fine. I surrender." He finally says, death staring me. I grin and haul him to his feet.
"How is it that you always win?" He huffs.
"Because I'm older than you." I retort matter-of-factly, dusting myself off. I waited for the furious reply.
Sure enough, he turns to me in an outrage. "Only by two and a half minutes!" He near shrieks.
"Still older." I shrug.
"I'll get you next time." He promises with a glare.
"Keep believing that, little brother." I tease, thoroughly enjoying myself, then I'm distracted by something ahead. "Look!" I say suddenly, running towards it, where a faint blue glow can be seen. Fili and Kili follow.
