The room was dimly lit, the thick and heavy curtains were drawn down to block the harsh daylight. Taehyung stood by the side of the bed looking down at his mother, Soomin. Her vibrant features had paled, her breath coming weak, the poison was slowly draining the life from her.

Soomin's frail hand rested in Taehyung's as if he wanted he could somehow anchor her to the world a little longer. His expression revealed a flicker of warmth, a rare tenderness reserved only for her.

"Mother," Taehyung's voice was soft, very different and rare to the commanding tone he used with everyone else.

"I'm here."

Soomin opened her eyes weakly, now a small task as simple as eye-opening felt like a burden to her body. She managed a weak smile as she looked at her son. "My Taehyung," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

Taehyung leaned closer, his free hand brushing a stray strand of hair from her forehead. "I'll find a way," he said, his voice laced with desperation. "I promise I won't let this poison take you."

Soomin's smile remained, but there was a sadness in her eyes. "You can't protect me from everything, my son," she murmured. "But I know you'll try, just as always."

Taehyung's grip tightened slightly, "You're all I have, Mother," he whispered, the vulnerability in his voice bringing out the depths of his fear. "I can't lose you."

Soomin's hand gently squeezed his. "And I'm so proud of the man you've become," she said softly. "But remember, Taehyung, even the strongest of us need help sometimes. You don't have to carry this burden alone."

For a moment, Taehyung's stoic mask slipped entirely, revealing the pain and love he held for her. He nodded silently, unable to speak as her words settled on him. A few minutes passed, and the room was filled with Soomin's silent breathing. Taehyung was lost in his thoughts, unknowingly caressing his mother's knuckles.

Taehyung hesitated slightly as he spoke. "Grandma mentioned that Jungkook might be able to help you. She believes that—"

He faltered, unsure how to continue, because Soomin's eyes hardened with anger. The sadness that had once filled her gaze was now taken by bitterness and hate. Her voice carried anger. "So now, a courtesan's daughter is expected to save me? Is that what this is about?"

Taehyung hesitated, his brow furrowing. He shifted slightly, struggling to find the right words. ". It's... it's about any possibility of help. I didn't mean to—"

Soomin's frustration cut him off. "You think a simple gesture or a cure can resolve everything? The deep wounds? Do you honestly believe that?"

Soomin's eyes held a sharp edge of loathing as she spoke.
