Jace
I was almost surprised to see her holding a walking stick but then I remembered why she was in the hospital.
"Hey Kylie" I said sheepishly, rubbing the back of my neck with my hand.
"Hi Jace." She said, a faint smile painted across her face. She was beautiful. I don't know what I did to get her, but I know I ruined the entire thing.
"I see you're doing well, ya know...aside from the blind part." I said, my voice faltering every now and then. She let out a small laugh, scratching the side of her forehead.
"Yeah. Cameron said he might be able to find a 'magic man' like Bane to try to fix it. Then I'll be my old shadow hunter-y self." She answered, doing finger quotes when she said "magic man". A silence filled between us before I decided to shatter it.
"I'm so, so sorry Kylie. I wish I could take back everything that I did. And I know...it's a long shot but.. I really, really hope you can give me a second chance. I admit, seeing Clary did blind my feelings toward you but I realize how wrong that all was. I'll do anything you want if you give me the chance to prove my affection towards you." I gushed out, realizing my words after I said them. "I-I didn't mean to make a pun on your blindness I swear."
She giggled at my nervousness. She let out a sigh and fidgeted with the cane she used to help her walk. She didn't answer me right away. I couldn't see her eyes, but I could tell she was trying to figure out what to say to me.
"Jace..you really hurt me. I get that seeing your 'first love' or whatever could've affected your actions but...you didn't have to be so harsh." She stopped, licking her dry lips before continuing. "I'll be completely honest, even if it does make me look like a fool, I still love you. I'll always love you. But, I'm going to need some time if I'm going to take you back. I just got out of the hospital literally an hour ago. I forgive you, but I won't take you back just yet."
"Okay. I understand. But I'm going to fight for you. Every, single, day I'm going to fight for you to take me back. No matter how long it takes." I said, walking closer to her. I knew she could tell I was closer because she took in a deeper breath, the closer I got. "What are you doing here anyway? I thought you'd keep your distance from us."
"Uh, well actually...I'm moving." She said, smiling.
"Moving? Moving where?" I asked hurriedly. She giggled at me again, amused that I was so scared of her leaving.
"Calm down, I'll still be in the area. I'm moving in with Cameron in his house with his mom. He's actually a shadow hunter too, believe it or not. Well actually he's a retired shadow hunter like Clary's mom." Kylie explained. She sounded happier, and I was glad that someone could still keep her happy.
"Oh that's cool. I'm happy you're happy." I said sincerely. She reached towards me, wrapping her skinny arms around my waist. I hugged her back and we stood there for a minute before she backed up.
"Actually, speaking of Clary and her mom, have you seen Hodge since he disappeared?" She asked. "Also, can you help me get to my room and put my stuff in bags while we talk?"
"Oh yeah, of course. And nobody has. I'm sure he's up to no good and I know that whole deal was left at a loose end but, yeah. Who knows where he is." I explained, walking her to her room. I grabbed her extra bags from the top of her closet and started handing her her clothes as she put them in the bags.
The rest of the time we put the stuff in bags and we talked about, well, everything. We joked and talked about the good times and the bad. We talked about how we went to school and how she got jealous. We talked about how I've been lacking in my piano skills. We talked about finding Bane together (including Cameron). We talked about being close again.
When we were finally done, I picked up the bags and had her hold onto me as I led her out to the Institute's entrance. I set her bags down as she told me before she spoke again.
"I've missed you Jace. I've missed you being you. And even though I'm not agreeing to date you again just yet, you better come visit me all the damn time." She told me, half playing around but all in seriousness.
"And if I don't?" I joked, poking her cheek.
"Then I'll just have to break out this ol' whip of mine and hunt you down." She laughed, lifting her wrist. I laughed with her, letting the laughter die down before speaking.
"I've missed you too Kylie. Honestly."
