EQUIPMENT - Magicaraich Community (Sea)

The Magicaraich Community's Maritime Defense Department (Abteilung Seeverteidigung or AS) is the de facto naval force of the country. In early 1600s, Magicaraich is in the process of building a fleet for coastal defense, but priority is placed on the development of a merchant fleet than on a navy. Its ships are armed to mainly protect against pirates rather than taking on the fleet of another nation. However, the increasing capabilities of individual naval ships possessed by Magicaraich's northern neighbor Mu, which the Community designated as a hypothetical enemy, necessitated a modernization plan to strengthen their own naval forces as well.

In response to the emergence of Muish all-big-gun battleships, the MAS began modernizing itself with assistance from the Holy Milishial Empire, which also has an interest in making a check against Mu in the Second Civilization Area since Leifor is deemed unreliable. The objectives of coastal defense remained largely unchanged, but there is a new emphasis on development of the torpedo, which offered the possibility of relatively small ships successfully attacking much larger ones.

The MAS's main fleet is currently consisted of one Cruiser Squadron (1. Kreuzergeschwader), three Frigate Squadrons (1 to 3. Fregattengeschwader), three Corvette Squadrons (1 to 3. Korvettengeschwader), and seven Coastal Defense Squadrons (1 to 7. Küstenverteidigungsgeschwader).

Ships constructed by the Holy Milishial Empire's minor shipyards for export purposes to less advanced countries, classified by the HME as magic light cruisers of the Iron Bamboo-class Magicaraich-pattern, while the Magicaraich Community calls them the Barthelma-class (or -pattern) protected cruiser (geschützter kreuzer). This is the first modern cruiser design of the MAS equipped with the country's newest breechloading guns, and set the basic pattern for the Magicaraich Community's future cruisers. The design is originally planned to be the successor to the HME's Iron Bamboo-class and Steel-class small ships, but it was quickly rendered obsolete by the Next-Generation Warship Studies and construction for export is made using iron bamboo alloy.

As of 1615, there are already three ships in Magicaraich's service out of the five ordered, with the last two ships are scheduled to be commissioned in mid-1616. Each ship takes 6 months from laid down to completion and 4 months to commissioning, with the last two ships are being built at the same time in the same shipyard.

Protected cruisers are so-called because their vital machinery spaces are protected by an armored deck and the arrangement of fuel depots. It lacked the Milishian ships' signature armor strengthening capability and as a result can only rely on its constructed material's capability and armor scheme to withstand hits. The Magicaraich Community mostly uses them as coastal defense ships.

Ships in class are Barthelma, Hatebrand, and Vicelinus, with the remaining two would be christened Unni and Thethmar.
