Ivypool padded out of camp, giving a nod to Whitewing, her mother, who was doing entrance guard duty. Mousewhisker and Thornclaw had gone slightly earlier before her, to avoid suspicion. As soon as she left, Ivypool broke into a sprint, racing to the ShadowClan border.

"Ivypool! There you are!" Applefur greeted her cheerfully. Tigerheart and Redwillow stood behind her, their pelts blending into the pine forest. "Do either of you know a good place?" asked Mousewhisker with a twitch of his tail.

"Follow me." Tigerheart beckoned them into the ShadowClan territory and the rest followed him, discussing about the Dark Forest. Redwillow, who was also her Dark Forest apprentice, caught up to her and meowed, "RiverClan and WindClan are joining us too." Pleased, Ivypool brushed her tail against her back as a gesture of approval.

Soon, they reached the meeting place. It was like a Twoleg nest, but was made of stacks of wood. Six cats' shapes were already huddled there, evidently waiting for them.

"What took you so long?" grumbled Hollowflight as the ShadowClan and ThunderClan cats reached them. Ignoring the dark brown tabby tom, Ivypool stalked to the tallest log and climbed up. Tigerheart, equally senior, scrambled up beside her.

"Get into pairs, but make sure it's with a different Clan," Ivypool ordered. "We'll train for some time. Larkwing, you can pair up with me." "Beetlewhisker, you'll do with me. Remember, sheathed claws-for now. We don't want to cause suspicion." added Tigerheart before they leapt down from the log.

The WindClan she-cat faced her; she looked nervous but determined. Not hesitating to attack, Ivypool flew at Larkwing, who put up her paws and thrust her away forcefully. Hissing, the pale brown cat dropped into a crouch and sprang, cannonballing into Ivypool and knocking her down.

Wriggling away, the two she-cats swiped at each other. Ivypool noticed with approval that the glint of fear had vanished; it was replaced with ferocity that matched Ivypool's own. However, Ivypool wasn't going to go easy on the tabby she-cat. Yowling viciously, she knocked her down by ramming her own shoulder into Larkwing's, then placed her own paws on her throat.

"All right, you win!" Larkwing grunted. Letting out a satisfied purr, Ivypool looked at the battling cats and thought, Hawkfrost, if you see this...I hope you're proud.
