Ivypool yawned and arched her back in a luxurious stretch, then headed to the clearing. For one of the first times, he body was not laced with scratches. The time with Hawkfrost still lingered, his scent still fresh in her nose.

"Ivypool! Go for a hunting patrol with Bumblestripe and Blossomfall," ordered Brambleclaw from the clearing. The dark tabby tom look so much like his brother, Hawkfrost- except for Hawkfrost's snow-white belly and ice-blue eyes, while Brambleclaw had amber ones.

Jerking herself from those thoughts, she hurried to join the two littermates, who were waiting at the camp entrance. "Come on," Bumblestripe twitched his ear and led the way out of camp. "We are hunting at the ancient oak."

Finding herself next to Blossomfall, they fell into a familiar rhythm, muscles pumping rhythmically as they bounded behind Bumblestripe. The Dark Forest has trained us to be like this! thought Ivypool with exhilaration. It was also good to stretch her legs and run at full pelt, sunlight dappling her silver-and-white pelt.

Finally, Bumblestripe slowed, and the three cats slowed into a trot. The pale gray tom let Blossomfall take the lead, and whispered into Ivypool's ear, "Dovewing's a great cat. Honestly, Toadstep shouldn't have challenged Firestar like that. She can take care of herself; she's fast, nimble and a great hunter too!" His yellow eyes were wide with admiration and something else.

Drawing away sharply, Ivypool's eyes turned as wide as moons. "Great StarClan, Bumblestripe! Do you like her?" She hadn't meant for her words to sound sharp, but Bumblestripe looked both defiant and defensive suddenly, his fur prickling. "So what if I do?" he challenged. "You've got no right to interfere in our relationship!"

With a flash of memory Ivypool remembered seeing Dovewing and Tigerheart meeting when she was an apprentice. The two cats had seemed so lovestruck. But still, Tigerheart was her Dark Forest Clanmate; was Dovewing going to turn him soft?

Sighing, she hurried to help Blossomfall, who was stalking a mouse. Romance would have to wait; she had to hunt first.
