I had no idea what she was screaming about.
Until I turned around.
There lie Avery on the ground. She sat in a puddle of her own blood. I fell to my knees and sobbed so hard I felt nauseous. Finally after five minutes of hysterical crying, I walked over to her body and examined it. I found that there were many shattered pieces of glass lodged into her back.
"Wait, these don't go in very deep at all. This couldn't of did it." My voice trembled. I hesitantly rolled her head to the right, exposing a thick piece of glass buried deep into her right temple. I gasped and stumbled back.
All the girls were standing in front of me in shock, their eyes red and puffy from their previous crying session. I then walked up to them and we huddled in a hug.
"I'm so sorry, guys," I told them, "I never meant to drag you into all of this. Please, go home before you get hurt too."
We wiggled our way out of the huddle and stood in silence. Finally, Lexi spoke up,
"No, now that I've started this, I'm ending it. I'm not leaving you to deal with it by yourself. And I'm not leaving until we find your sister."
"But-,"
"No, Violet," Camryn interrupted, "Lexi's right. You can't do this by yourself." Jordan shook her head in agreement. I give them a half-hearted smile then suddenly remembered Avery's dead body lying behind me.
"What are we going to do about.. Her," I turned around, expecting to see her lifeless body, but instead saw nothing but the pile of her blood.
"What the he-.. Where did her body go?" Jordan shrieked.
"I.. I don't.. I don't know!" I jogged over to the pool of blood and kneeled down to inspect it. There was nothing unusual, other than the fact that I was actually inches away from blood that was once inside one of my best friends' head.
Camryn walked up close to me and inspected the area around us. She came to the base of the shattered statue and stopped.
"Violet.. Come look at this."
