I slowly stood up and walked over to Camryn. I then saw what she looked so horrified about; there, on the base of the statue, was another message. Only this time, it was written in, I was guessing, Avery's blood.

It said: 'I warned you then, now it begins. There's no way now to save your friends.'

None of us bothered to read it aloud. I tried my hardest to mask my horror.

"Go home, all of you," I demanded, "I'm being serious, go."

Before any of my friends could reply, a high-pitched scream came ripping through the woods behind me. I recognized the scream; it was Tanner's.

Out of pure instinct, I bolted for the woods.

"Violet, wait!" My friends called behind me. I wasn't turning around, not for anything. Eventually I could hear the sound of their running feet and heavy breaths coming up along side of me. They were all on the track team, unlike me.

"Why did you do that?" Questioned Lexi as she put her hand out to stop me from running.

"Because I heard her!"

"Heard who?"

"Tanner! Didn't you hear her scream?" I was stunned.

"No, I didn't hear anything," she replied. Lexi turned to the other two girls, "did you?" She asked them. They both simultaneously shook their heads.

"Bu-but.. I heard it. It was coming from here. I-"

Jordan cut me off, "What is that?" She pointed to the large lake behind me.

"It's a lake," I replied in a sarcastic tone.

"No, in the lake."

I turned to see a small, shiny object floating in the lake.

"I'll go look at it closer," volunteered Camryn.

"Okay," I replied, "but be careful."

With out saying anything else, Camryn walked over to the edge of the lake, which was a few feet away from we were standing.

"It's too far away. I can't really see it," she called to us. Camryn proceeded to take off her shoes, roll up her pant legs, and slosh through the water.

"I still can't see it," she complained, "I'm getting out." As she turned around to do so, her body stiffened up and she stopped trying to walk.

"What is it, Cam?" Asked Jordan.

Camryn didn't answer. Instead, she started violently shaking her leg.

"Get off! Get off!" She screamed. My other friends and I ran to the edge of the water. We were too terrified to go in.

"Camryn, what is it?"

She was too busy screeching to reply.

After a few more seconds of struggling, Camryn was pulled down and hit the water with her stomach. I ran in after her, screaming her name.

The deeper I got into the lake, the farther away Camryn was dragged from me. She was being pulled backwards fast, her arms out, and her fingertips skidding across the water. Finally, she was pulled completely under.
