Music. Early on his life, Luke learned that his only escape was music. A kind enjoyment that turned into his getaway from reality. He knew he was given a rare gift, as his guitar accompanied him onto the darkest paths. He may not believe in people anymore, but music would always be there.
His parents, though, didn't believe in that passion. All they saw was a waste of time, and from a young g age they strongly discouraged him to treat his guitar as a hobby and nothing more. So, when playtime was due and Julie waited for him, Rose Molina made sure the two kids would have equal knowledge on their talent.
And somehow, his parents never learned that instead of playing games with little Julie, he was perfecting his guitar skills. So, when the teenage years arrived it was too late to change his mind.
The guitar attracted many gazes and much attention that Luke never anticipated. He didn't care about looks, but when he noticed the small gazes from the girls deep down he fell flattered. His mind was far from meaningful relationships, as he had sometimes tried to take advantage of his talent hitting on one or two girls. He wanted to experience on his own what this burning desire that all people his age talked about was like. He was disappointed. A meaningless companion for some hours meant nothing to him. So, he focused back on his music ignoring the potential fans.
His friends, Alex and Reggie, had a different opinion though.
"He's acting...odd. At least, odder than usual." Alex whispered, his back on the closed locker behind him. Reggie sighed, " Should we..." he turned to face his friends, uncertainty on his eyes." Should we do something?"
And Alex shrugged. Luke, on the locker next to them, ignored their presences as he scratched notes on his old notepad. His pencil making a piercing sound against the paper that slowly drove Alex insane.
"Yeah, we definitely should."
The blonde boy, walked past Reggie that stood in the middle of his goal, and with a quick movement he snatched Luke's notepad. Just then, Luke realised he wasn't alone.
"Hey man! I was using that," he groaned, clearly disturbed. "Yes, I remember we were discussing and then you simply left to write again on this thing."
Luke rolled his eyes, before dragging his notepad back to his grip. He was annoyed but Alex seemed determined to wake his friend from his lethargy.
"What's up with you lately?" He asked, his brow lifted in question.
Luke didn't want to have this conversation.
He was lost in a deep sea without an anchor, and as far as he knew he didn't really care. He kept doubling his pills, sometimes even mixing them up. He needed to numb this constant pain inside him. Day by day, it kept growing and slowly started to absorb him.
When he was reaching the edge, when the pills weren't enough to make that ache dull, he wrote. Lyrics, notes, he wrote and wrote until his hand was in pain. Giving life to melodies and harmonies, the sound calming gently his tensed nerves.
