"Y-your daughter?"
"Yes! Okay, let's go home, and we'll discuss everything."
Ajay left. Abhyudaya was standing, numb."Abhi…"
Sakshi called him."Do you know her?"
"How could he know me? You're just overthinking."
Gautami moved away after saying this.In the evening, Sakshi got discharged.
"Wait, I'm calling a cab."
"Uncle, no need. I took my car."
"Umm, okay."
They all sat in his car. Sakshi, Aarohi, and Gautami were in the back seat."Uncle, it's about 12 am. Let's go to our house, stay there tonight."
"Huh, yeah, you're right. It's been a long time since I met Arvind."
After more that half hour, the car pulled up in front of Mohan Mansion, the headlights casting a soft glow on the familiar driveway. Abhyudaya sighed in relief, finally arriving after the long drive. Aarohi and Sakshi were already awake, stretching and yawning as they prepared to get out of the car.Aarohi noticed that Gautami was still fast asleep, her head resting on the backseat, completely oblivious to the world. She leaned over and started nudging her.
"Gautami, wake up… Gautami, wake up!"
Aarohi called out, her voice growing more insistent as she shook her shoulder gently. But Gautami didn’t budge, her breathing steady as she remained in deep slumber. Aarohi tried a few more times, but it was clear Gautami wasn’t waking up easily. Abhyudaya, who had been watching with increasing irritation, finally spoke up.
"You guys go inside. I’ll wake her up,"
he said, his tone more determined than usual.Aarohi glanced at him, sensing his slight annoyance. She shared a look with Sakshi, who raised an eyebrow in silent amusement.
"Alright, Mr. Mohan, good luck with that,"
Sakshi teased lightly before stepping out of the car. Aarohi and Ajay followed, the three of them heading inside the mansion, leaving Abhyudaya alone with the sleeping Gautami.Abhyudaya turned in his seat to face her, sighing as he realized she was still completely out of it. He reached over and gently shook her shoulder.
"Gautami, wake up. We’re home."
No response. Abhyudaya huffed, frustrated but also slightly amused by how deeply she was asleep. He tried again, this time leaning closer.
"Gautami, seriously, wake up."
Gautami let out a soft sigh, but she didn’t wake. Abhyudaya was about to give up when an idea crossed his mind. Leaning in even closer, he softly murmured near her ear,
"Gautami, if you don’t wake up, I’ll have to carry you inside."
As if on cue, Gautami stirred, her head turning slightly towards him. But instead of waking up fully, she shifted closer to Abhyudaya, her head now resting on his shoulder, her warm breath tickling his neck. The sudden proximity caught him off guard, his heart skipping a beat as he felt her so close.
Abhyudaya froze, his mind racing. He could feel the softness of her hair brushing against his cheek, her gentle breathing making him acutely aware of every inch between them. He hesitated, torn between waking her up and not wanting to disturb this unexpected moment.
Just as he was about to try again, Gautami’s hand subconsciously moved, her fingers brushing against his arm as she shifted slightly in her sleep. The touch sent a jolt through him, and before he knew it, his own hand moved to gently hold hers, almost as if on instinct.
