The Weight of Silence

In a world that's quick to judge and misconstrue

I find myself at a loss for what to do

Every word I speak gets twisted and turned

Leaving my true intentions
misunderstood and spurned

So I'll seal up my lips and remain ever silent

For speaking my truth only leads to tumult and chaos

It seems that honesty is not always the best policy

For when I speak my mind no one can see

The burden of censoring myself weighs heavy on my soul

But it seems that is the only way to avoid the toll

Of upsetting those around me with my candid words

I'll keep my thoughts to myself, where they won't be absurd

For the peace of others is more important than my own honesty

And so I'll swallow my words for the sake of harmony

But deep inside the silence weighs heavy on my heart
