The soft glow of candlelight flickers across the table, casting a warm, intimate light on the dishes before me. I look around, taking in the beautiful setup—white linens, delicate flowers, and the quiet hum of a violin playing somewhere in the background. Everything feels so… perfect.
My eyes wander to YN, who’s sitting across from me, her expression calm and confident as always. There’s something different about tonight, though. I can feel it in the air, a quiet anticipation that makes my heart beat just a little faster.
"Lisa, how’s everything?" she asks, her voice soft but carrying the weight of the moment. She’s looking at me, really looking, and I can’t help but smile.
"It’s amazing, YN. You outdid yourself," I say, my eyes drifting to the plate before me. The food is as stunning as ever—delicate, intricate, and full of flavor. Every bite feels like a revelation, but tonight, it’s more than just the food. It’s the way she’s looking at me, the way she’s been all evening, that makes my pulse race.
I reach for my glass of wine, taking a sip to steady myself. "You didn’t have to go through all this trouble, you know," I add, trying to keep the mood light, but my voice comes out softer than I intended.
YN smiles, leaning in slightly, her eyes sparkling in the candlelight. "For you, it’s never trouble," she replies, and there’s a sincerity in her voice that makes my breath catch.
We talk as we eat, about everything and nothing. The conversation flows as naturally as always, but there’s an undercurrent of something unspoken. I can feel it—like the words are hanging just out of reach, waiting for the right moment.
As the last course is served, a delicate dessert that looks almost too beautiful to eat, I notice YN becoming slightly more serious. She glances at the dessert, then back at me, as if gathering her thoughts.
"Lisa," she begins, her tone suddenly more tender, "I’ve been thinking a lot about us lately."
My heart skips a beat. I set down my fork, my full attention on her now. "Yeah?" I manage to say, my voice barely above a whisper.
She takes a deep breath, her eyes locking onto mine. "I’ve really enjoyed getting to know you, spending time with you… these last few weeks have been some of the best of my life." She pauses, as if searching for the right words. "And I realized something—I don’t want this to end. I want us to be more than just… what we are now."
I can feel my cheeks flushing, my heart pounding in my chest. Is she saying what I think she’s saying?
YN reaches across the table, taking my hand in hers. Her touch is warm, reassuring, and it sends a shiver down my spine. "Lisa, will you be my girlfriend?" she asks, her voice gentle but firm.
I stare at her, stunned for a moment, trying to process the words. Then, a smile spreads across my face, and I nod, unable to hold back the tears that spring to my eyes. "Yes," I whisper, squeezing her hand. "Yes, I will."
The relief and joy that wash over her face are enough to make my heart swell. She smiles back at me, her eyes shining with emotion, and for a moment, it feels like we’re the only two people in the world.
She stands up, walking around the table to pull me into a hug. I bury my face in her shoulder, inhaling the familiar scent of her, feeling the warmth of her embrace. When we pull back, she presses a soft kiss to my forehead, and I can’t help but feel like the luckiest person in the world.
"Thank you," she murmurs, and I look up at her, slightly confused.
"For what?" I ask.
"For giving us a chance," she says, her voice full of sincerity.
I smile, leaning up to kiss her cheek. "It’s the best decision I’ve ever made."
As we settle back into our seats, the night feels even more magical. The future is uncertain, but as long as I have YN by my side, I know everything will be just fine.
