The city of Jungjin was unusually quiet as the moon hung high, casting a soft silver light over the streets. The counters had just finished another exhausting mission, successfully taking down a particularly elusive evil spirit. The exhaustion was evident in all of them, but none more so than So Mun, who had taken the brunt of the attack.
Do Hana walked beside him as they made their way back to the noodle shop, her arm brushing against his occasionally. It was a small, comforting gesture, one that had become second nature to them over the years. They had been through so much together, and despite the dangers, their bond had only grown stronger.
“Are you okay?” Hana asked, glancing up at Mun, her eyes filled with concern.
Mun smiled tiredly, the corners of his lips lifting slightly. “I’m fine Noona, just a little sore. That spirit was a tough one.”
Hana nodded, her grip tightening on his hand. “You should be more careful. You don’t always have to be the one to take the hits.”
“You know I can’t help it,” Mun replied, his voice soft. “I just want to protect you. I want to make sure you're okay.”
A warm feeling spread through Hana’s chest at his words. She had never imagined she could feel so deeply for someone, but Mun had a way of breaking down her walls, piece by piece, until all that was left was a raw, vulnerable love she couldn’t deny.
When they finally reached the noodle shop, the lights were dimmed, and the comforting scent of spices and broth filled the air. The others had already retreated to their rooms, leaving the shop eerily silent. Hana turned to Mun, who was leaning against the counter, his eyes heavy with exhaustion.
“Let’s get you to bed,” Hana whispered, her voice barely audible in the quiet of the shop.
Mun nodded, too tired to argue. Hana led him to his room, the familiar space offering a sense of peace. She helped him out of his jacket, her fingers brushing lightly over his shoulders. He watched her with half-lidded eyes, a soft smile playing on his lips.
“You’re too good to me, Noona” Mun murmured, his voice laced with affection.
Hana shook her head, a small smile tugging at her lips. “You’re the one who’s too good, always risking everything for us, for me.”
Mun reached out, taking her hand in his. He pulled her closer until she was sitting beside him on the edge of the bed. “I’d risk everything for you, Hana. You know that, right?”
Hana’s heart skipped a beat at his words, the sincerity in his voice leaving her breathless. “I know,” she whispered, leaning in to press a soft kiss to his lips. “And I’d do the same for you.”
They stayed like that for a while, wrapped in each other’s warmth, the world outside forgotten. Eventually, Mun’s eyelids grew too heavy to keep open, and he drifted off to sleep, his head resting on Hana’s shoulder.
Hana watched him for a long time, her hand gently brushing through his hair. She couldn’t help but smile as she thought about how far they had come, from fighting side by side as counters to finding solace in each other’s arms. She never thought that she will fall deeply inlove with him, someone who unexpectedly came into her life.
As she finally laid him down and pulled the covers over him, Hana couldn’t shake the feeling that something was different tonight. A nagging thought lingered in the back of her mind, something she couldn’t quite put her finger on. She brushed it aside, deciding that she would figure it out in the morning. For now, all she wanted was to be close to the man she loved.
