??? POV
From the shadows of a nearby oak tree, I watched them, hidden from sight. My brother and sister, unaware of my presence, living out their days in the human world. They looked so happy, so at ease, as if the weight of their celestial heritage had never existed. Christopher's laughter echoed in the air, mingling with Star's soft giggles. They were sitting on the porch of their small house, wrapped in each other's arms, watching the sun dip below the horizon.
A smile tugged at the corner of my lips, but it was a bitter one. Seeing them like this, so vulnerable, so mortal, stirred something deep inside me- an ache that hadn't dulled even after all these years. The plan had worked perfectly. They had chosen humanity over the restrictions of their angelic and demonic natures, just as I'd hoped. But watching them now, I couldn't help but question if this was truly the right path.
They believed I was gone, lost to them forever. That was the story everyone in the celestial realm knew—the tragic tale of Zade, the fallen angel. But the truth was far more complex. I hadn't died; I had escaped. I had slipped away into the human world, abandoning my duties as an angel to live a life free of the Codex, free of the endless war between angels and demons. And I'd watched over them, my siblings, from a distance, waiting for the moment when they would understand my decision, when they too would seek freedom.
Now that moment had come. They had chosen to leave it all behind, to become human, to live a life without wings, without powers. A life bound by time, by mortality. They thought they were free, but freedom was a deceptive thing.
I leaned against the tree, my eyes never leaving them. They had been so close to something great, so close to defying the Codex without having to give up their nature. They could have changed everything, but instead, they had chosen the simplest path, the easiest way out. They'd chosen humanity over revolution.
"Fools," I muttered under my breath, though the word lacked the anger I'd intended. They weren't fools. They were just... scared. Like I had been. Scared of the consequences, scared of losing each other. I understood that fear better than anyone.
But something needed to be done. I couldn't let them go on like this forever, couldn't let them forget what they were capable of. They were meant for so much more than this quiet, simple life. They were meant to challenge the heavens and the underworld, to tear down the rules that kept beings like us bound.
I had hoped that by watching them, guiding them from the shadows, they would see the truth. That they would realize their own strength, their own potential. But perhaps it was time for a different approach. Perhaps it was time to step out of the shadows.
I watched as Christopher leaned in to kiss Star, his hand gently cupping her cheek. Her smile was soft, her eyes filled with love. They looked so content, so certain that this was the life they were meant to live. It would be easy to let them go, to let them continue on this path. But I couldn't do that. I wouldn't. Not when they were capable of so much more.
They needed to remember who they truly were. Not just human, but angel and demon. They needed to remember their power, their purpose. They needed to be brought back into the fold, to understand that their lives had a greater meaning.
I turned away from the scene, blending back into the shadows. My presence here was a reminder of a past they had chosen to forget, a past I was determined to bring back. I couldn't force them to return, but I could make them see. I could show them the truth of what they had given up, the truth of who they were meant to be.
As I disappeared into the night, a plan began to form in my mind, a way to remind them of the power they held, of the destiny they were running from. I would find a way to draw them back, to make them question the choice they had made. And when they did, I would be there, ready to show them the path they had forsaken.
Would they resist, or would they embrace their true nature once more?
The answer lay in the future, a future that I was determined to shape. For now, I would continue to watch over them, to be the unseen guardian of their fate. Because no matter how far they ran, no matter how human they tried to become, they would always be part of the celestial war. They would always be angel and demon. They would always be mine to protect and guide.
The night swallowed me whole, the darkness a comforting cloak. Star and Christopher believed they had escaped their past, but some things could never be escaped.
Some bonds could never be broken.
And some choices, no matter how final they seemed, could always be rewritten.
Oh and me? My name is Zade. Zade Lee-Se.
