Silence consumed the room around Karissa as she stepped inside. She could hear the light snores coming from behind one of the doors. Great, a snorer. Karissa quietly walked over to the only opened door, peeking inside, she opened it. The room was a decent size, about the same as her room back home. There was a small closet with some dresses similar to the one she wore. Each one a different color. There was also a couple pairs of leather boots, as well as a tunic. The bed's sheets were white, pillowcases having little fringes at the ends that made them look fluffier. The bed's frame, tall and shiny, brown like the woods used to keep houses warm in the winters. And a long desk sat in front of the towering window. On it, a stack of books were tied together with a white ribbon, next to them sat a couple journals with ink pens.
Karissa sat her things in the chair and sat on the bed, comfort surrounding her sore legs. Ugh, her boots slid off like butter as she rolled them off her bare feet, ankles red from the leather rubbing harshly on them. I need to bathe, she thought, but if there's only one bathroom then I should wait until I meet the others. She sighed. Though she wasn't dirty, the journey made her feel such. At least I'm not sweaty.
Stepping out of her clothes, the cool temperature in the room kissed her pale body, covering every inch of her in goosebumps. She climbed into the bed and under the cold sheets, the comforter immediately warming as it hugged loosely over her. Slowly, she drifted off into a deep sleep as the soft bed cradled her like a baby in her mother's womb. She smiled to her drowsiness as the dreams greeted her with a smile.

A loud slam sounded, making Karissa dart awake. Her burning eyes looked to the now wide open door. In the doorway was a blonde girl about her age. Upon seeing this, she immediately covered her naked body with the sheet, "What the fuck!!" She shouted, "Ever heard of knocking instead of barging in?!" She then noticed the girl was holding a broom upside down, meaning it to be a weapon. "Why are you in here?" The girl asked, "Who the hell are you?!" Karissa furrowed her brows. "I live here now," she said, "I just got here last night." She put the broom down. "Now," Karissa sighed, shaking off the slight anger she felt. After all, she didn't exactly tell anyone she was here, "let's start over, yes? I'm Karissa from South Town. Who are you?"
She smiled, short blonde hair bouncing as she nodded, "Name's Cora. I was born here at the sanctuary. I'm.. sorry for the rude awakening. Professor Chasm never said we'd get another roommate. Originally we used this room for one night stands or study group." Did she just say.. one night stands? Cora noticed Karissa's face and laughed, "I promise the sheets are cleaned afterward! You're all good." A breath of relief left Karissa's lips. Cora stood awkwardly, "So, uhh.." she started, "I'll let you get dressed. Um.. our other roomies already went to breakfast. It ends in about an hour and a half. I'll be your guide girl if you'd like?" Karissa nodded. "That'd be great, thank you!" She said as Cora left the room.
Cora lead her down to the dining room, almost every chair had a person occupying it. "Wow," Karissa smiled, "there's so many people here!" Cora smiled, "Yeah, the school holds breakfast for students and professors every morning. On the weekends it's a longer time, but it's the second weekday, so we only have about twenty minutes. Come on, newbie!" She took Karissa's hand, and the two dashed over to a line with various small breakfast items. Cora took a plate and handed it to her new friend, "Pick what you'd like. But don't get too full, don't wanna doze off in classes!" Karissa nodded, grabbing a couple of small food items; two muffins and fried eggs.
The dining room had many roundtables, most of them were completely occupied. As Karissa looked around for a spot, people stared at her, each set of eyes had something unique about them; icy blues, blood reds, golds, even white and purples. In the sets of eyes, she caught sight of a group of girls not staring, one of which was Cora. She spotted Karissa and waved her over, saying something to the other girls as she walked up. When the girls turned to look at her, Karissa noticed their familiar features. The girls' eyes widened in shock, and Karissa shared the expression, realizing who they were. One of them was pale, freckled and had long locks of curly red hair. The other had tan skin, bright blue eyes and a tightly wrapped beige veil on her head. Amanda and Lorelai...
Karissa nearly dropped her breakfast as she jogged over to them, the two girls standing as she approached. She sat her food down and immediately jumped into Amanda's waiting arms, tears flooding both their eyes. Amanda cried her best friend's name into her shoulder. A wave of relief came over Karissa. They're okay, she thought, Amanda and Lorelai. My friends. My home. She then hugged Lorelai tightly, she too had tears of joy. Though it was only a short time together in South Town, their connection was strong.
They released each other and sat down. "I thought you both were dead!" Karissa sniffled. Amanda cooed, "I wish we could've wrote to you, K. But the Headmaster advised for us not to since you hadn't shown any signs yet." Lorelai nodded to support her friend's statement. "I'm so glad we're all together again." Said Amanda. Cora then cleared her throat, chiming in, "Soooo you're all from South Town! That's awesome, even better now that we're all roommates!" Karissa's eyes went wide. Amanda gasped, "Chasm brought you to our dorm!?" Lorelai smiled excitedly, "Finally! No more moaning noises when I'm trying to study!" They laughed in unison.
The four spent all of breakfast discussing dormitory plans, catching up on lost time, and enjoying the delicious food together. When time was almost up, Karissa felt a presence come up behind her. She turned to see Professor Chasm standing before her, holding another slip of paper, "I believe I neglected to give this to you upon your arrival, Karissa," he handed it to her, "looks like you'll be attending my class first. See you then." He bowed his head and waved at the four of them before exiting. Cora giggled, "Delta is so lucky. I mean look at that guy, he's gorgeous!" Amanda rolled her eyes as she stood, "Cora, you're a sucker for older men." She shrugged, "What can I say? I may not wanna date anyone, but there's always other options." Lorelai made a face as in saying ew. "Gross, dude!" Amanda slapped her arm playfully. Cora laughed loud, "Not with him, obviously! He has a mate!" Karissa scoffed jokingly as she stood.
"Well I'm gonna take Karissa to class," Amanda took her hand, "we're together for first! Come now." She waved at Lorelai and Cora and dashed off, dragging Karissa along. Exiting the dining room, she let go of Karissa's hand, "Alright, KK!" She smiled, "First class is always fun. Chasm really knows what he's doing, and everybody tends to get along in there, so, you and I are gonna sit together, and I'll help you with everything-" Before she could finish her sentence, a guy bumped into her, knocking both girls down. Amanda cried out and Karissa winced at the impact of the floor. "Watch it, bitch!" A male voice cried out, "Are you both blind or something?!"
The two stood back up, brushing off their flowing skirts. Karissa looked up at the male; dark blonde, tan, and blue eyes, a pissed off expression plastered on his pretty face. "Hello?" He waved his hand aggressively, "You deaf, too?" Amanda groaned, "Buzz off, Tucker. It was just an accident! Don't be such a hothead." The supposed Tucker laughed bitterly, "Suck my cock, freckles. And you." He pointed in Karissa's face, "Keep your fucking girlfriend in check. Or I might just do something about it myself." He stormed off quickly. "Try to avoid him, Karissa," Amanda's voice was cold, "Tucker's an entitled douchebag who's not worth our time. Come on." They continued to their first class, and while they walked, Karissa couldn't shake that ridiculous feeling she got when his crystal blue eyes seemed to pierce through her soul. And she hated that it gave her the most butterflies she'd ever felt in her life.
