While Delta believed being late was okay, that was only to an extent. Being too late meant consequence, and for Malachi and Karissa, that was the case. Instead of joining their peers in the next step of their extra training, they went with Chasm outside of the gates on a 'special mission'. This can't be that bad, right..? Karissa thought, hoping Malachi would respond. This mission could be anything, shimmer.. Malachi's voice hummed in her mind, be prepared for anything.
As the three approached the lake, a large fish-like creature leaped from the water. "What was that!?" Karissa had never seen a fish that size before, her astonishment was then validated by a chuckle from her Professor. "That, Mija," Chasm started, "is an Alligator Gar. And it's been killing all of the fish in this lake.. so we're here to catch it." He held up a large net, "The thing is with this beast, it was bewitched. Therefore it is twice the size that it's supposed to be.."
"So you want Karissa to fry a giant Gar?" Malachi raised a brow, "Telling by the giant explosion from her first lesson, I think she'd probably boil the entire lake to nothing but a crater.." Karissa's cheeks went warm from embarrassment. "We're," Chasm motioned to himself and Karissa, "not gonna be using our magic. But you might be. Karissa and I would just kill all of the fish. And we cannot use it in the water without a certain body temperature. But your magic falls in the category of Cool Tones. Which is today's mini lesson for you two whilst we catch this beast!" The two exchanged side glances, and Malachi snorted when their eyes met, making Karissa smirk.
Chasm had his students get close to some mossy rocks at the edge of the lake. As the three of them studied the water, he began his lesson. "Now, Malachi, what can you tell me about Shadowkissed Warlocks?" He asked. Malachi cleared his throat, holding the net with both hands, "Shadowkissed Warlocks are one of the older types of their kind. Their magic includes shadow manipulation and blending, Lockjaw, mind control, and certain aspects of Telepathy and Telekinesis. They can also learn other types of magic except for Light and Fire, the only exception to those types is Storm Conjuring."
"Very good, Mijo," Chasm smiled, stepping carefully onto some rocks untouched by moss, "and can you tell Karissa and I what some of those magic skills mean? What do they do?" He smiled at his professor and took a light breath. "Shadow Manipulation and Blending is basically using the shadows to your advantage. I'm able to manipulate the shadows to do what I want them to, like surround me and others, shrink and grow them for intimidation and defense, and make shapes. I am a champion at Shadow Puppets." Karissa and Malachi laughed, and he continued, "Blending is when I use the shadows for transportation. I can blend myself into the shadows and travel through them, but it's only a certain distance, we can't cross waters or fields of magic. I can go up to 40 yards through them before I'm thrown back in the open."
Malachi proceeded to step onto a mossy rock, and when he did, black surrounded the rocks, almost as if the shadows underwater had vanished to surround where he stood. "Lockjaw is in its name. I can use the shadows to break bones or lock someone's jaw in place. It throws off the target and makes them focus on trying to shut their mouth." Chasm almost slipped on another rock as he took another step. Once he caught his footing, he gave the two a thumbs-up. "Alright, then," Chasm smiled, "Karissa, why don't you tell us some aspects of Fire Wyverns that you've learned in your studying?"
Malachi handed Karissa one end of the net, motioning for her to follow his steps. She followed his lead as she began her answer, "Fire Wyverns are one of the stronger of the entire Wyvern species. Being that there's five elements total, they're not only one of the strongest, but also very destructive. We're able to create and manipulate fire with just the tips of our fingers and toes. If we're not in full control of our abilities, or unsure of what we can do, it'll just shoot out everywhere like an explosion. Not only is that dangerous for those around us, but it can also be lethal to the wielder, as it could potentially stop our hearts for too long after it happens. That's why I lost consciousness that day in class."
