The new apartment was filled with the sound of laughter and clinking glasses as Claire's friends gathered around the kitchen island, helping each other prepare a celebratory dinner. The air was thick with the scent of garlic and herbs, and the table was set with an array of dishes-homemade pasta, roasted vegetables, and a chocolate cake for dessert.

Sarah, Madison, and Emily were in high spirits, their excitement infectious as they buzzed around the kitchen, setting up everything perfectly. They wanted tonight to be special-a celebration of Claire's pregnancy and the new chapter of her life.

"This is going to be amazing!" Sarah exclaimed as she placed the finishing touches on the salad. "Just the four of us, enjoying a night together."

Claire smiled, trying to match her friends' enthusiasm. She appreciated how much effort they had put into making tonight perfect, but a small knot of anxiety had been growing in her chest all day. The reality of everything was beginning to weigh heavily on her, and no matter how much she tried to push the thoughts away, they kept creeping back.

As the evening progressed, the girls settled around the table, toasting to Claire and the baby. Laughter filled the room as they shared stories and reminisced about their high school years, the worries of the outside world momentarily forgotten.

"This is exactly what I needed," Claire said, raising her glass. "Thank you, girls. I don't know what I'd do without you."

"You don't have to thank us," Madison replied with a grin. "We're all in this together."

Emily nodded in agreement. "And we're going to be the best aunts this little one could ever ask for."

The warmth of their friendship enveloped Claire, but even as she smiled and laughed with them, the knot in her chest tightened. She couldn't shake the overwhelming thoughts swirling in her mind-thoughts about the future, about becoming a mother at such a young age, and about the responsibility that was now on her shoulders.

After dinner, as the girls moved to the living room, Claire excused herself to the bathroom. Once she was alone, the panic she had been holding at bay finally surged forward, crashing over her like a tidal wave. She leaned against the sink, her breath coming in short, shallow gasps as the walls seemed to close in around her.

The voices of her friends laughing in the other room felt distant, almost unreal, as her mind raced with fear and doubt. How was she going to do this? How could she take care of a baby when she was still trying to figure out her own life? The future suddenly seemed so uncertain, so terrifying.

She tried to calm herself, taking deep breaths like her mother had taught her, but the panic wouldn't subside. It clawed at her chest, making her feel like she couldn't breathe, like the weight of the world was pressing down on her all at once.

Suddenly, there was a soft knock on the bathroom door. "Claire? Are you okay in there?" It was Sarah's voice, filled with concern.

Claire didn't answer right away, trying to compose herself, but she couldn't hide the tremble in her voice when she finally responded. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just... give me a minute."

But Sarah wasn't convinced. "I'm coming in," she said gently, pushing the door open.

When she saw Claire's pale face and the tears brimming in her eyes, her heart sank. "Oh, Claire..." She immediately pulled her friend into a hug, holding her tightly as Claire finally let the tears fall.

"I'm so scared, Sarah," Claire whispered, her voice shaking. "What if I'm not ready for this? What if I mess everything up?"

Sarah stroked Claire's hair, trying to soothe her. "You're going to be an amazing mom, Claire. We're all here for you, and you're not alone in this. It's okay to be scared, but don't let it overwhelm you."

Madison and Emily, sensing something was wrong, appeared at the doorway, their faces filled with concern. "What's going on?" Madison asked softly.

"She's just feeling a little overwhelmed," Sarah explained, not letting go of Claire. "But we're going to help her through this, right?"

"Of course," Emily said, stepping forward to join the hug. "You're stronger than you think, Claire. And we're going to be with you every step of the way."

Surrounded by her friends, Claire's panic began to ebb, replaced by a deep sense of gratitude. They were right-she wasn't alone. She had people who loved and supported her, who would help her through whatever challenges lay ahead.

"I'm sorry," Claire said, wiping her tears. "I didn't mean to ruin the night."

"You didn't ruin anything," Madison assured her. "This is what friends are for. We're here to celebrate with you, and to hold you up when things get tough."

"Thank you," Claire whispered, feeling a little stronger with their support. "I'm so lucky to have you all."

The four of them stayed like that for a while, just holding each other, the bond of their friendship stronger than ever. And as the night continued, they knew that no matter what the future held, they would face it together-one step at a time.
