The morning sun peeked through the curtains as Claire sat on the edge of her bed, her hands trembling slightly with anticipation. Today was the day she would finally learn the gender of her baby, a moment she had been both dreading and eagerly awaiting. Her heart raced as she glanced at her phone, checking the time. It was almost time to leave for the doctor's appointment.Claire's mom, Karen, knocked on the door gently before peeking her head inside. "You ready, sweetie? We should get going soon."
Claire nodded, taking a deep breath to steady herself. "Yeah, I'm ready."
As they made their way downstairs, Claire felt a mix of excitement and nervousness bubbling up inside her. This appointment would make everything feel even more real. She knew it was just the next step in her journey, but it was a big one.
When they reached the living room, Sarah and Liam were already waiting. Liam stood up as soon as he saw Claire, his eyes filled with a softness that always made her feel a little more at ease.
"Hey," he said quietly, stepping closer to her. "You doing okay?"
Claire offered him a small smile. "Yeah, just a little nervous."
"We're all here with you," Sarah chimed in, giving Claire's arm a reassuring squeeze. "No matter what, we've got your back."
The four of them piled into Karen's car, with Claire and Liam sitting together in the backseat. As they drove to the clinic, Claire stared out the window, her thoughts swirling. Liam's hand found hers, giving it a gentle squeeze, and she squeezed back, grateful for his presence. Despite everything they'd been through, moments like this made her believe that maybe, just maybe, they could make this work.
The clinic was quiet when they arrived, the soft hum of air conditioning filling the waiting room. As they checked in, Claire couldn't help but notice how her heart pounded in her chest, the reality of the situation sinking in even deeper. Soon, they were called into the examination room, where the ultrasound technician greeted them with a warm smile.
"Ready to find out if it's a boy or a girl?" the technician asked, her voice cheerful as she prepared the equipment.
Claire nodded, lying back on the examination table as the technician applied the cool gel to her belly. Liam stood beside her, holding her hand, while Karen and Sarah hovered nearby, their faces filled with anticipation.
As the technician moved the ultrasound wand over Claire's belly, the room fell into a hushed silence. Claire's breath hitched as she saw the blurry image of her baby appear on the screen, the tiny form wiggling slightly.
"There's your baby," the technician said softly, pointing to the screen. "Let's see if we can get a clear view of the gender."
Claire's grip on Liam's hand tightened as she stared at the screen, her eyes searching for any clue. Time seemed to stretch as the technician adjusted the wand, her eyes narrowing in concentration.
And then, with a smile, the technician turned to them and said, "It looks like you're having a..."
Claire held her breath, her heart pounding in her ears.
"...a girl!"
The room erupted in excitement as Claire felt tears spring to her eyes. A girl. She was going to have a daughter. The thought sent a rush of emotion through her, a mix of joy, relief, and overwhelming love for the tiny life growing inside her.
Liam's face lit up with a wide smile, and he leaned down to press a gentle kiss to Claire's forehead. "A girl," he whispered, his voice filled with awe. "We're having a girl."
