Sarah sat on the edge of her bed, her phone in her hands, staring at the messages she had sent Claire the night before. There had been no response yet, and the anxiety that gripped her heart wasn’t going anywhere. Claire was her best friend. They had been through everything together. They had grown up side by side, shared secrets, and navigated the ups and downs of high school life. But lately, it felt like everything had spiraled out of control, and Sarah didn’t know how to fix it.

Claire’s pregnancy had changed everything. What started as a surprise had quickly turned into a storm of chaos. Between Liam, the stress of being a teenage mother, and the constant threat of Samantha’s interference, it felt like they were all drowning, and no one knew how to save them. But today was a new day, and Sarah was determined to be there for Claire, no matter what.

The sound of her phone buzzing startled her out of her thoughts. A message from Claire lit up the screen.

Claire: "I’m at my mom’s place now. Can you come over?"

Sarah didn’t hesitate. She grabbed her keys and jacket, sending a quick reply before heading out the door. "On my way."

As she drove through the quiet streets of their town, her mind raced with thoughts of everything that had happened in the last few weeks. Samantha’s behavior had gone from petty to dangerous, and Sarah couldn’t help but feel that they were all caught in the crossfire. She hated seeing Claire so afraid, especially when Marie Li’s safety was on the line.

Pulling up to Claire’s mom’s house, Sarah spotted Emily’s car in the driveway. Good. At least she wasn’t the only one here. She parked her car and hurried up the steps, knocking lightly on the door before letting herself in.

Inside, the house felt warm and welcoming, a stark contrast to the tension that had hung over them lately. Emily and Madison were sitting on the couch, while Claire’s mom held a sleepy-looking Marie Li in her arms.

"Hey," Sarah greeted, trying to keep her voice light, though the concern was evident on her face. "How’s everything?"

Claire’s mom smiled gently, but it didn’t reach her eyes. "We’re okay, for now. Come in."

Sarah made her way over to the couch, sitting down next to Emily. She glanced over at Claire, who was sitting by the window, looking out into the yard. The weight of the world seemed to rest on her shoulders, and Sarah’s heart ached for her friend.

"Claire," Sarah said softly, "you doing okay?"

Claire turned to face her, her eyes tired and heavy with emotion. "Not really," she admitted. "I feel like everything’s falling apart, and I don’t know how to hold it together."

Sarah nodded, understanding the feeling all too well. She had seen Claire struggle with this pregnancy from the start, not because she didn’t want to be a mother, but because everything was happening so fast. Add Samantha into the mix, and it felt like they were constantly on high alert, waiting for the next disaster.

"We’re all here for you," Sarah said, reaching out to squeeze Claire’s hand. "We’ll figure this out together."

Emily chimed in from across the room, her voice filled with determination. "We should seriously think about getting the police involved. This is too much. She can’t keep getting away with this."

"I agree," Madison added, her arms crossed as she leaned against the armrest. "Samantha has crossed so many lines. It’s not just about high school drama anymore. She’s putting you and Marie Li in danger."

"I know," Claire sighed, rubbing her temples as if trying to ease the tension building in her head. "But I don’t want to make things worse. What if it just makes her angrier?"
