The next morning, Claire woke up feeling a mixture of excitement and anxiety. Today was the day she and Liam, along with her friends, would start working on the nursery. It was an important step in preparing for the baby, and while she was thrilled about it, the responsibility weighed heavily on her mind.As she got out of bed, Claire noticed that her belly seemed a little rounder than it had been the day before. The sight made her smile, but it also reminded her of how fast everything was happening. She was going to be a mom soon-a thought that still felt surreal.
After breakfast, Claire and her friends gathered at the apartment, ready to tackle the nursery. Madison and Emily had brought over some paint samples, while Sarah was busy looking up nursery design ideas on her phone. Liam had picked up some supplies, and they were all set to start turning the spare room into a cozy space for the baby.
"Alright, what's the plan?" Madison asked, holding up the paint samples. "Do we want something soft and neutral, or are we going for a more vibrant color?"
Claire looked at the samples, her mind racing with possibilities. "I think something soft would be nice. Maybe a pale pink or a light gray?"
Emily nodded in agreement. "Pale pink sounds perfect. It's sweet and calming-just what a baby's room should be."
With the color decided, they all got to work, taping off the edges of the walls and covering the floor with plastic sheets. Claire felt a little overwhelmed at first, but as soon as they started painting, the task became more manageable.
As the first coat of paint went up, Claire found herself relaxing a bit. The act of transforming the room into a safe, welcoming space for her baby felt empowering, like she was taking control of her future. But even as she painted, her mind kept drifting to the challenges ahead.
At one point, Sarah noticed Claire's thoughtful expression and paused, her paintbrush in hand. "You okay, Claire? You seem a little lost in thought."
Claire sighed, leaning her head against the wall for a moment. "I'm just...thinking about everything. How much is changing, how fast it's all happening. It's exciting, but also a little scary, you know?"
Madison, who had been working on the opposite wall, put down her brush and walked over to Claire. "Hey, it's totally normal to feel that way. You're taking on a lot, but you're not doing it alone. We're all here for you, every step of the way."
Emily nodded, stepping up beside Madison. "Exactly. And don't forget, you're stronger than you think. You've already made it through so much, and you're going to be an amazing mom."
Their words touched Claire deeply, bringing tears to her eyes. "Thanks, you guys. I don't know what I'd do without you."
Sarah smiled warmly. "We're your family, Claire. We'll get through this together."
They all hugged, a moment of solidarity that reassured Claire she wasn't alone in this journey. She had people who loved and supported her, and that made all the difference.
Liam, who had been in the living room assembling some new furniture for the nursery, walked in just in time to see the girls hugging. "What did I miss?" he asked, a teasing grin on his face.
"Just a little girl talk," Madison replied with a wink. "But don't worry, you're still part of the team."
Liam chuckled, then looked at Claire with concern. "You doing okay?"
Claire nodded, wiping away her tears. "Yeah, I am. Thanks to these amazing friends."
The day continued with everyone pitching in to make the nursery perfect. Madison and Emily helped put together the crib, while Sarah and Liam arranged the new furniture. Claire busied herself with organizing the baby clothes they had already bought, folding tiny outfits and placing them in the drawers.
