six

i woke up without warmth, and i realized that my mom wasn't beside me anymore. billie was there instead, sitting up on her phone. she noticed me moving around and smiled down at me.

"sleep well?" she asked, i nodded and rubbed my eyes. "your mom left like two hours ago" she said, sliding so that she was laying down, "what time is it?" i asked, scooting away from her just a little.

she checked her phone, "10:30" she replied. i nodded, "i'm gonna go take a shower" i said, not even looking at her. i got up and took out a new set of clothes, then my towel. i went into the bathroom, closed the door and looked in the mirror.

better than before, i guess.

i looked a little less dead, which was nice. i turned on the water and got undressed, then got in and did the usual shower stuff and brushing my teeth before going back to my room.

billie was still in there, scrolling away on what i'd assume was tiktok. i can't really complain 'cause i do the same thing. i laid back down, i was a little bit uncomfortable with the fact that she was so close to me, and because my emotions were swirling.

like, i didn't mind it but i also did because i have a massive crush on her and being around her makes me want to hide in a shell like a turtle.

"bil, you know you can go into the guest room, right?" i asked, she thought for a moment. "i'm okay with staying in here if you are" she answered. well fuck my life.

i nodded and turned the opposite way from her. i could feel her staring daggers into the back of my head, but i ignored it and stayed on my phone.

i could hear her put her phone down and roll over, and i could feel her scoot closer to me and wrap her arm around my waist. i froze, and tried my best to act like i wasn't about to shit myself.

"i'm gonna go visit fin and claudia tomorrow, i haven't seen them in a few days" she said. "okay" i mumbled, trying to ignore her closeness. i was hyperaware of everything though, i could feel all of her breaths on my back, her eyelashes flutter, when she'd move just the littlest inch so that she was more comfortable.

my breaths were getting shallower, and i put my phone down and on the charger so that i could try and focus. but it's pretty safe to say i didn't sleep well at all that night.

i woke up alone, and checked the time. it was 2 pm. i was asleep for 16 hours? shit. i mean, i wasn't really asleep. i'd call it being in an out of consciousness. i rubbed my eyes and got up, brushing my teeth and washing my face and going downstairs.

the dogs bowls weren't fully empty, which meant billie fed them before she left. i drank some water and ate two of yesterdays leftovers pancakes.

i sat down on the couch and decided to watch miss peregrine's home for peculiar children again because i was bored. i was sat up, but with my arms on the back of the couch with my chin resting on them. jupiter snuggled himself behind me, really laying on my back even though i was half sitting up.

i think i dozed off, because i heard the front door open and heard multiple voices, rather than none.

me waking up startled jupiter, but he'll live. i was only wearing a tank top and short shorts, so i ran upstairs as fast as i could and put on basketball shorts and a hoodie.

i made my way back downstairs slowly, and i saw billie, finneas and claudia at the door, petting all four dogs. billie smiled at me, and when finneas looked up, his face changed into a massive grin. "evie!" he yelled, running over and tackling me into a massive bear hug, he almost knocked me over. i laughed and hugged him back.

"it's been forever, what the fuck!" he yelled, i nodded, then moved away. he was like my second older brother, so it was nice to finally see him again. claudia brought me into a hug, "it's nice to finally meet you" she smiled brightly, "you too" i smiled back.

i never got to meet claudia before billie stopped talking to me, but her and finneas would talk about her all the time.

"do you guys want anything to eat or drink?" i asked, moving into the kitchen, "just water, please" finneas asked, "me too, please" claudia added. nodded and went to grab them both glasses and fill them up.

i handed them the water and sat back down on the couch. "so, tell me everything, what's new?" fin asked. i shrugged, "it's been like, four years, what do you mean nothing's new?" he asked dramatically, his jaw dropped.

"nothing's new" i said, "nothing at all" i added, "well, except for the dogs, i guess. i made a few new friends, lost a few, you know the deal." i mumbled. he nodded, "they're so cute though" claudia grinned, smiling down at turtle, who lay in her lap.

i giggled. billie sat beside me, but she was so close that my entire side was touching her. i swallowed and tried to listen to finneas as he was explaining everything that happened to him since we've talked in great detail.

i managed to get the gist of what he was saying, but it was still pretty hard. especially with his sister sitting almost half way on me. i rubbed my eyes, all of my energy was pretty much drained.

"you tired, baby?" billie whispered, i nod. "go upstairs and take a nap, i'll be there when you wake up" she smiled. i nodded, bidding my goodbyes to finneas and claudia in case they were gone when i woke up.

i then went upstairs and took off my hoodie, then laid down. i was awake for what couldn't have been more than two hours, before i finally fell asleep.

i woke up to billie laying fast asleep on my chest. i let out a small sigh, and i guess that woke her up because she groaned and nuzzled herself closer.

i couldn't breathe properly, and it was annoying because i didn't want to wake her, but i also didn't want to lose my life to asphyxiation. so i decided to lay there until she got up.

it took a while, but eventually she sat up and rubbed her eyes, "why are you breathing like that?" she asked. i shrugged and decided that now was my chance to flee before i made a bigger fool of myself.

i made it to the bathroom, then closed and locked the door. i sat on the floor with my knees to my chest, closing my eyes. i let out a deep breath, and did my best to control the rest of those that followed.

after a few minutes, there was a knock at the door. "evie, are you okay? what are you doing?" billie questioned. "i'm fine." i answered, "will you at least unlock the door?" she asked. "okay" i mumbled.

i sat up and unlocked the door, then sat back down. she cracked open the door and poked her head through, "do you want me to come in?" she asked, i shook my head. "okay, let me know if you need anything, i'll be making dinner." she smiled, "okay" i said.

she shut the door and i sat there for a little while. eventually, i went back into my room and laid in my bed. i was there, in peace, for about half an hour before i was disrupted.

"evie! dinner's ready!" i heard billie yell from downstairs, i wasn't even hungry. i felt like i would throw up if i put anything in my stomach that wasn't water.

i ignored her and continued scrolling on tiktok, and then she opened the door. "did you hear me? food's ready" she said, "i'm not hungry" i answered.

"well, you gotta eat." she frowned. "billie. i'm not hungry" i repeated. she sighed, "are you sure? you need to eat something."

she walked over to me and sat on my bed, trying to read my facial expressions. "are you trying to starve or are you really not hungry?" she asked.

"i'm not hungry, i promise." i answered. she let out a huff and got up, "i'll put the leftovers in the fridge." she mumbled. i nodded and resumed my previous actions.

a/n guys school starts in less than a week so updates will probably be a little slower, sorry.

also idk whats going on in this book yet i have zero plans and im just writing as i go so please be patient with me if it turns out like shit, im sorry ☹️
