After Emiya and Artoria separated, she had many doubts about the enemy she encountered (who was he? What was his purpose? And similar questions).
After a few months of carriages and other means of transport, Artoria hooded reaches the capital of the fiefdom, Rome. There she discovers that the most popular place is the Domus Aurea for art and music shows, but also duels and the like. The feudal lord appears to be an exhibitionist, as well as being a knight and artist. After finding a place to sleep, she decides to go see the event that was taking place that evening.
Artoria sits in any available seat in the stands. A beautiful girl stood in the middle of the huge golden structure and shouted to the public:
"Hello everyone, people of Rome and others. Welcome to my Domus Aurea. I am your beloved Nero. You are lucky that today I am here to host the event because I am the protagonist of the evening and my challenger is him, the Dark Swordsman. Give him a loud round of applause."
From the proclamation she understands that Nero is the nickname of Nero which is the name of the feudal lord of the place. She realizes that the rumors about her were true, but she became curious about the boy. She immediately notices the boy in the cloak and the sword that cut through the bars of his cell, but doesn't understand the nickname "Dark Swordsman" (does that mean he's the Dark Hero? Or is he his companion? Why does he have that name?). Everyone throws objects at him from rocks to rotten fruit, shouting at him to die. The black swordsman is called Kirito. It seems that he has killed and robbed many nobles and is therefore not loved by them.
He doesn't speak, but waves.
"Draw your sword now, dark warrior. It will be a battle to the death, where the winner will surely be myself. Try to prove your worth and inflict a minimum amount of damage on me."
The two prepare to fight and the first to attack is Nero. Kirito blocks the blow with his sword, but gets a kick to his left side that throws him into a wall of the Domus. He gets up and this time launches the attack. He hits Nero's red sword three times in a row and the fourth always hits that one too. The brilliant knight takes the boy's arm, throws him into the air and points her blade straight at his chest. Kirito also blocks this blow and pushes hard so that he can make Nero fall. The plan works and Nero remains on his knees. The Dark Knight lands feet on the ground and was ready to kill the glowing girl by holding the sword above her head, but stops as she kills him without hesitation. Before dying there was surprise on the boy's face, but immediately afterwards there was a smile. Blood flows onto the ground and Kirito speaks into the shining knight's ear before dying.
During the duel, time stops for Artoria and she notices a man under a black hood. Suddenly he is next to her, but she can't see his face. Without even looking at her, the hooded man speaks:
"Kirito is not evil. He killed the nobles who earned their money from the humble. He also stole their money to give it to the needy. (Puts his hand on Artoria's shoulder and teleports her above the Domus Aurea) Look at the people praying in front of that church and the happy children in that orphanage. All of them were saved by the Dark Knight. Oh, Hero of Light, do you think anyone can enter this building? In this building there are mostly aristocrats and few people who have the money to afford it to come in. (He takes her back to the seat) Many of them are also people who have profited from those killed by Kirito. Should someone like that really die? .He let the humble lose their earnings and abandoned an orphanage for himself and even had this place built. What is the role of a true knight? What will you do, Hero of Light? I ask you."
Shocked by the stranger's words, but before she could say a word, he disappears. When she returns, the duel is over and Kirito ends up on the ground. The audience is thrilled by the Dark Knight's death, while Artoria remains seated, shocked. Look at the face of that man who fell to the ground smiling and Nero is still standing in front of him and doesn't understand the situation. (Why is she still there? Why doesn't she proclaim her victory? What happened? thought Artoria). The brilliant knight kneels and places her hand on the shoulder of the boy who has now gone to heaven. The body is taken away and Nero raises her sword in victory, but without raising her head. The cry of the people gets even louder and the show ends like this. Before everyone left Artoria comes down from the stands and takes out her sacred sword in invisible format (using wind magic, she made the sword invisible, thanks to the memories of the old hero).
"I, Artoria Pendragon, wish to challenge you to a duel, Claudius Nero!"
With a serious face and a feeling of sadness Nero stares at Artoria and accepts her challenge.
