"Mayari!?" I worriedly asked as I gently shook the small-framed girl lying unconscious on top of me. I was lying flat on the floor, trying to make sense of my surroundings. A huge opening, blasted on the wall next to us, was caused by the ominous dark light that tried to engulf us earlier. The bright glow of the moon shed some light into the gloomy room that used to be the clubroom of the illusive Hiwaga Club. Broken debris from chairs, desks, and other materials was scattered everywhere, strewn all across the room like piles of rubble.
"Mayari?" I called out once again while gently pulling her fragile body and clearing the surrounding area of the thick smoke, which was suffocating my breath.
I was losing faith in our current situation when I suddenly felt a sudden movement over me. Mayari gently opened her eyes, surveyed her surroundings, and tilted her head before me, offering me a wondering gaze. The darkness of the room did not help hide away the redness that formed on the face of the embarrassed girl on top of me. She immediately released herself from our awkward position and shyly took a sit on the dirty floor next to me, her buttocks resting at the back of her legs.
Being free from her weight, I slowly raised my upper body and turned into a sitting position, with my legs still flat on the floor. I tried to stretch my arms and back to relax my bones and release all the tension inside my body.
"Are you okay?" Mayari asked with a slight blush on her cheeks, timidly looking at her side, avoiding eye contact with me.
"I'm fine," I hastily answered. "Thank you for saving me earlier. I only survived because of you."
I couldn't imagine what would have happened if she hadn't jumped out of her way and saved me from that ominous dark light. It may look different because of its dark hue, but I knew what we encountered earlier was a powerful ball of diwa. The energy emanating from it may have elicited a sinister sensation, but I couldn't have been mistaken. It would have caused us a lot of damage or even killed us right on the spot if we had not evaded it just in time.
"How about you? Are you okay?" I curiously asked. That was when I realized the terrible state she was in. Blood was dripping from a significant injury on the left side of her head. There was a visible cut mark on her right cheek, and some parts of her body were filled with slashes and wounds. But the most troubling was a huge formation of blood on the left side of her hips. She was pressing her hand on the area, trying to ease the pain.
"You don't look okay," I said. "We need to get you into a hospital."
