Monday morning arrived with the usual flurry of activity as Ethan returned to the office after a weekend spent with Emily. The weekend had been a mixture of emotions—moments of genuine reconnection with his wife, intertwined with the constant undercurrent of thoughts about Sophia. He had tried his best to focus on Emily, to be present in their shared time, but Sophia lingered in the back of his mind like a shadow he couldn't shake.

They had spent Saturday morning lounging in bed, talking about everything and nothing. It was a return to the kind of intimacy that had once been the cornerstone of their marriage. Emily laughed at his jokes, her eyes crinkling at the corners in a way that had always made Ethan's heart skip a beat. He had wrapped his arms around her, feeling the familiar warmth of her body against his, and for a moment, he had allowed himself to believe that things could go back to the way they were.

But by Sunday evening, as they sat together on the couch watching a movie, Ethan's mind drifted back to Sophia. He thought of her smile, the way she looked at him with that mix of longing and excitement. He found himself missing her touch, her presence, even as he held Emily's hand. The pull toward Sophia was undeniable.

As he stepped into his office that Monday morning, the tension between his two lives resurfaced. Ethan settled into his chair, already feeling the pull of his secret relationship with Sophia. He knew that the moment he saw her, the same thrill would wash over him, filling the void that had grown in his marriage. It wasn't long before a soft knock on the door interrupted his thoughts.

"Come in," he called out, knowing exactly who it would be.

Sophia entered the room, her eyes bright with a mix of excitement and caution. "Good morning, Ethan," she said softly, closing the door behind her.

Ethan couldn't hide his pleasure at seeing her. "Morning, Sophia," he replied, his voice warm. He stood up and walked over to her, his hand gently brushing her cheek. "How was your weekend?""It was fine," she answered, though her gaze held a question she didn't voice. "I missed you, though."

Ethan felt a pang of guilt at her words, but he couldn't deny the thrill they gave him. "I missed you too," he admitted. "It was hard being away."

Sophia smiled at his words, leaning into his touch. But before they could say more, the phone on Ethan's desk rang, breaking the moment. With a reluctant sigh, he stepped back and answered it.

After a brief conversation, he hung up and turned back to Sophia, an idea forming in his mind. "My secretary just resigned," he said, the news sparking a thought. "I was thinking... how would you feel about taking over her position?"

Sophia's eyes widened in surprise. "You want me to be your personal assistant?"

"Yes," Ethan confirmed, his tone serious. "You're already familiar with the office, and it would give us more opportunities to spend time together... discreetly."

Sophia hesitated, clearly weighing the risks and rewards. "I'd like that," she said finally, a hint of excitement in her voice. "But what about the others? Won't they suspect something?"Ethan shook his head. "We'll keep it professional. No one will suspect a thing," he reassured her, though the thrill of the situation was evident in his eyes. "This way, we can be close without raising any eyebrows."

Sophia nodded, a small smile playing on her lips. "Then I'm in," she agreed. "I'll do my best to keep everything... balanced."

"Good," Ethan said, his voice low. He leaned in, pressing a quick kiss to her lips before pulling back. "Let's start fresh today."

As the day progressed, the excitement of having Sophia so close intensified. Every time she passed by his office, Ethan felt a surge of anticipation. They exchanged glances across the office, shared brief, secretive touches when no one was looking, and revelled in the thrill of their clandestine relationship. With Sophia settling into her new role as his personal assistant, the lines between their professional and personal lives became increasingly blurred.

By mid-afternoon, Ethan found himself inventing reasons to call Sophia into his office—requests for documents that weren't urgent, questions about schedules that could have waited. Each interaction was charged with an undercurrent of tension, a shared understanding of the game they were playing.

"Ethan," Sophia said softly as she handed him a file, their fingers brushing in the exchange, "we have to be careful."

"I know," Ethan replied, though the thrill of their secret moments was clear in his eyes. "But I can't help it. I want you close."

Sophia smiled, her gaze lingering on his. "I want that too."

As the day passed in a blur of stolen moments, Ethan found himself eagerly anticipating the evening. He would return home to Emily, playing the part of the devoted husband, while still enjoying the excitement of his affair with Sophia. The duality of his life gave him a sense of control, a thrill he hadn't felt in years.

When the workday finally ended, Ethan felt a mix of satisfaction and anticipation as he left the office. His thoughts lingered on Sophia as he drove home, but as he walked through the front door, the sight of Emily brought him back to his other reality.

"How was your day?" Emily asked, wrapping her arms around his neck and leaning in for a kiss."Busy, but good," Ethan replied, kissing her softly. "I'm just glad to be home with you."They spent the evening together, sharing dinner and conversation. Emily told him about her day, the small details of her life that Ethan had once found so endearing. He listened attentively, played his role flawlessly, and made sure to be the loving husband she deserved. But in the back of his mind, he savoured the memories of his stolen moments with Sophia earlier in the day.

After dinner, they curled up on the couch, much like they had over the weekend. Emily rested her head on his shoulder, her fingers intertwined with his. The familiarity of the moment should have been comforting, but Ethan couldn't help the fleeting thoughts of Sophia—her smile, her touch, the way she made him feel alive in a way he hadn't felt in years.

As the evening wore on, Emily suggested they go to bed early. Ethan agreed, following her up the stairs, his hand resting on the small of her back. They undressed in the comfortable silence of long-married couples, slipping under the covers without ceremony. Emily cuddled up to him, and he wrapped his arms around her, his thoughts momentarily focused on the warmth of her body against his.

But even as they made love, the memories of Sophia lingered at the edges of his mind. He tried to stay present with Emily, to focus on the woman he had committed his life to, but the thrill of his secret life with Sophia kept creeping in. It was a dangerous game, one he knew couldn't last forever, but for now, he was determined to enjoy every moment of it.

As the days turned into weeks, Ethan found himself thriving in his double life. He was able to balance his responsibilities at work and home while indulging in the secret relationship he had with Sophia. The thrill of it all was intoxicating, and for now, he was enjoying every moment of it. But even as he revelled in the excitement, a small voice in the back of his mind warned him that something would eventually have to give. He pushed that voice aside, choosing instead to live in the moment, savouring the rush of adrenaline that came with every stolen glance, every secret touch, every night spent with Emily while thinking of Sophia.
