The sun had just dipped below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow across the room where Ethan and Sophia lay entwined in each other's arms. The day had been filled with adventure and intimacy, and now, as they relaxed in the comfort of each other's presence, a question that had been lingering in Sophia's mind finally bubbled to the surface.
"Ethan," Sophia began, her voice soft and hesitant, "can I ask you something?"
Ethan looked down at her, his hand gently stroking her hair. "Of course, you can ask me anything," he replied, his voice warm and reassuring.
Sophia bit her lip, gathering her thoughts before speaking. "I've noticed that you don't take any precautions... I mean, each time we've been together, you haven't used protection. Why is that? Aren't you worried about what could happen?"
Ethan paused, his fingers stilling in her hair as he considered her words. He knew this conversation was inevitable, but now that it was here, he realized he hadn't fully thought through how to explain his actions. He sighed softly and looked into her eyes, his expression serious.
"For eight years, Emily and I never conceived a child," he began, his voice measured. "We never used protection either, but it just... never happened. I suppose, after all that time, I've come to believe that if it's meant to happen, it will. I've been letting nature take its course."
Sophia listened intently, her brow furrowing slightly. "So, if I get pregnant...?"
Ethan tightened his hold on her, his voice steady and sincere. "If you get pregnant, I'll be responsible. I would never turn my back on you or our child, Sophia. I want you to know that."
There was a moment of silence as Sophia absorbed his words, her mind racing with the implications of what he was saying. But before she could let herself get too lost in her thoughts, Ethan spoke again.
"Listen," he said, his tone gentle, "if you're unwilling to risk getting pregnant with my child, we can always work something out. I want to respect your decision. I understand that you're young, you've just started working, and you might not be ready for something like this."
Sophia cut him off, her voice firm but filled with affection. "No, you silly," she said with a soft smile. "If I wasn't okay with it, I wouldn't have let you... you know... unload deep into me, isn't it? If we have a child, then we have a child. I just wanted to make sure you know what you're doing."
Ethan felt a surge of emotion at her words. He pulled her into his embrace, his heart swelling with love and gratitude. "Oh, I love you, Sophia," he whispered, kissing her deeply.
They stayed like that for a while, wrapped up in each other's arms, savouring the connection that had grown between them. Later that evening, after a leisurely dinner, Ethan and Sophia sat together on the couch, enjoying the peaceful silence that had settled over the room. But as they lingered in the quiet, Ethan knew there was something he needed to tell her.
"Sophia," he began, his voice hesitant, "there's something I need to share with you."
Sophia looked up at him, her expression curious but calm. "What is it?"
Ethan took a deep breath, his fingers gently tracing circles on the back of her hand. "Emily... she brought up the idea of having a child recently."
Sophia's body tensed slightly, her eyes searching his for more information. "Why now? After all this time?" she asked, her voice tinged with unease.
"I don't know," Ethan admitted, his voice low. "I think she's trying to hold on to something, to rebuild what we had. But I told her that we agreed to try for six months, and that's it. We've been childless for eight years, and I don't think that's going to change now. I'm going to end things with her when the time is right."
Sophia nodded, though the tension in her body hadn't completely eased. "I just... I want to be sure you're serious about this, Ethan," she said quietly. "About us."
Ethan squeezed her hand, his voice filled with sincerity. "I am serious, Sophia. I want to be with you. I'm not going to let anything stand in the way of that."
Sophia's eyes softened at his words, and she leaned in to kiss him gently. "I trust you," she whispered.
That night, Ethan decided to take Sophia somewhere special, a place where they could escape the complications of their lives, if only for a few hours. They drove out to the countryside, to a secluded spot far from the city lights, where the stars blanketed the sky in a dazzling display.
They spread out a blanket on the soft grass, lying side by side as they gazed up at the stars. The night was cool, the air crisp and clear, and the only sounds were the gentle rustling of leaves and the distant calls of night creatures.
Ethan turned to Sophia, his hand finding hers as he spoke softly. "Do you see that constellation?" he asked, pointing to the sky. "That's Orion. It's one of my favourites."
Sophia followed his gaze, a smile playing on her lips. "It's beautiful," she murmured, her voice filled with awe.
Ethan shifted closer, his hand moving to cradle her face as he kissed her slowly, deeply, savouring the moment. The night sky stretched out above them, a witness to their shared intimacy, as Ethan's hands began to explore Sophia's body with deliberate tenderness.
He took his time, letting his fingers trace around her sensitive buttons all over her body, drawing soft gasps and light moans from her as he touched her in all the places he knew brought her the most pleasure. The stars above seemed to shine brighter, reflecting the passion that grew between them as they moved together, their connection deepening with each passing moment.
Ethan's lips travelled down her neck, across her collarbone, her breast, and her nipples before moving to her belly. His hands continued their exploration. He felt her body respond to his touch, the way she arched into him, her breath quickening as he brought her closer to the edge of ecstasy.
When he finally entered her, it was with a slow, deliberate motion, his eyes locked on hers, the intensity of the moment heightened by the beauty of the night surrounding them. They moved together under the stars, their bodies finding a rhythm that spoke of their deepening bond, of the love that had grown between them.
With every thrust, every whispered word, Ethan poured his emotions into their union, hoping that this night would be the start of something new, something lasting. He could feel the tension in Sophia's body as she neared her climax, and he held her closer, wanting to be as close to her as possible when they finally reached that peak together.
As they climaxed, the stars seemed to explode in the sky above them, a reflection of the intensity of their passion. They lay together afterwards, their bodies intertwined, the cool night air brushing against their heated skin.
Ethan pressed a soft kiss to Sophia's forehead, his heart full of emotion. "I love you," he whispered, his voice filled with promise.
"I love you too," Sophia replied, her voice barely above a whisper, but filled with the same depth of feeling.
They stayed like that for a while, wrapped up in each other and the beauty of the night, before finally deciding to head back. Ethan drove Sophia home, the memory of their time under the stars lingering in the air between them. When they reached her apartment, he leaned in and kissed her goodnight, a lingering kiss that conveyed everything he felt for her.
"Goodnight, Sophia," he whispered as he pulled away, his hand lingering on her cheek.
"Goodnight, Ethan," she replied, her eyes shining with the promise of more nights like this to come.
